I just upgraded receivers and now have a newer 5.1 Sony (100w x 5) just sitting there. Would anyone use this as an amp with my current receivers pre outs to power front mains, center, other etc? Or would you sell it on Ebay and pocket the 50 bucks?

What did you upgrade to? If your new rec'v/amp is higher quality output stage than the Sony, using it (the Sony) as an amp would _degrade_ your sound. It's the amplification (& its psu) where consumer-grade receiver really skimp. So, cautiously since I don't know your equipment, I wouldn't use the Sony as an amp.
