When I saw Thunderbolts tonight in digital IMAX, it was a packed house, the first time that's happened for me in quite some time. Even Sinners, which is doing amazing, was only about half full when I saw it.

For some reason, 1,330 theaters are adding Snow White back again this week. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is because audiences already largely rejected the movie back in March.

Last weekend, Disney pulled Revenge of the Sith out of theaters after one week so that it wouldn't compete with the opening of Thunderbolts. It seems to me that if Disney wants to re-expand one of their more recent releases, they left far more money on the table with Revenge of the Sith being cut off prematurely than they did with Snow White. I'm not sure why theaters would want Snow White again given the anemic results from the first time. There will probably be a lot of empty auditoriums for it this weekend.

I'd guess that Disney's thinking is that people will want to take their moms to Snow White for Mother's Day. I get the theaters doing it because Disney likely bribed them with a better cut from Thunderbolts or Lilo & Stitch tickets or a huge cut of the Snow White tickets. There's literally no other reason for the theaters to do it because they could likely make more money from having another screen of Sinners or Thunderbolts or maybe even The Accountant. With no ad campaign and, like you said, the movie being largely rejected a month and a half ago, it seems very futile on Disney's end.

Doesn’t look like Thunderbolts will reach $200 million domestically at this rate.

And Sinners just continues to amaze. “If you build it, they will come” indeed.

Seems like they rejected it again, as it only managed #13 and the gross was well behind A24's Friendship at #12 which was playing on only six screens.

Disney would have been better off returning Revenge of the Sith to theaters again after a hiatus for the opening of Thunderbolts than they were returning Snow White.

Thunderbolts had a respectable hold, Sinners and Minecraft continue to impress. Revenge of the Sith definitely would have been a better re release.

-55% is better than a lot of other recent Marvel drops. The problem seems to be that Thunderbolts was budgeted at $180 million. If Marvel had made the movie for less than that, it would be in a much better position right now.

Though that's reasonably economical for this type of movie in 2025. I'm not sure you can make tentpole superhero films for much less.

it wasn't a huge effects-driven extravaganza like alot of the other Marvel movies.
Honestly, that's what I liked about it. The stakes didn't have to be about saving the whole world because I was invested in what was going on with these characters and their personal stories.

It is clear that there is still a significant audience for Marvel films. But I also think they should rein in the spending a bit.

I really liked Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, and obviously star/producer/stuntman Cruise gave his all for that movie, as well as the others in the series. Cruise is also, however, one of the very few in Hollywood who still commands a percentage of "first-dollar gross," which means of course that he gets a percentage of the gross box office numbers even before the movie breaks even. If Cruise got 10% of first-dollar gross for Dead Reckoning that would mean a payday of $56 million for him. That's not something that would show up in the original budget, but is clearly a cost for the film. Maybe Cruise got only 5% of first-dollar gross, but even that would mean $25+ million dollars added to the cost. Most reports say that Dead Reckoning lost more than $100 million for Paramount, even with generous tax credits from the UK. With the costs of Final Reckoning now at around $400 million, it seems like break-even might be around $1.2 billion. I like these movies, and have opening day tickets for me and my spouse, but $1.2 billion worldwide seems unlikely.

No pun intended but I'd say it's impossible for it to make that much. This is the movie that I'm most looking forward to this summer so I wish it all the luck in the world but this is not a series that earns that much.

Warner is on a theatrical winning streak with Minecraft, Sinners, and now Final Destination Bloodline all out-performing expectations.

Sinners is the most impressive to me- an original movie that's already made over $200 million in today's market. Also, nice to see an actual good movie make that kind of money.

Agreed. Sinners has the most impressive box office performance of the year so far. Reportedly coming this Tuesday to streaming services for rent and purchase. Curious to see how much of a drop next week will be.
