Hopefully someone in the future. I'm just tired of seeing players with large contracts (some based on one year) not performing well, injured each year, etc.

Gerrit Cole
Giancarlo Stanton
Josh Donaldson
Anthony Rizzo
Le Mahieu

They just have never been so good at recruiting/drafting and developing young pitching. That's why they had to sign expensive SPs via free agency.

So... no, they don't really have anyone waiting in the wings to replace Cole or anyone else near the top of their rotation for foreseeable future.

And as long as they keep contending as they have, even if they don't get very far in Oct, they're not too likely to ever develop that much, if any, such young pitching... or they'll end up swapping the modest amount of position player recruiting+development for riskier young pitching instead (at best)...

I think you’re being unfair to include Cole in that group.

Having said that... I suppose they could try overhauling their scouting and pitching development to try yielding better results even w/out top picks in the annual draft. Some teams have certainly managed that to develop better young pitching than they have w/out the benefit of top picks nor deep teardown rebuilds... though not many plus those like Dodgers and even the Rays do still suffer plenty of setbacks w/ their loaded young pitching talent... which may partly be why they managed to acquire them in the first place (over other teams that missed out on them)...

Aren't you at least pleased they're in 1st place? I know your sentiments about the front office from past seasons, but don't see you taking much pleasure in the team this year after they finished in 4th place last year.

A Dodger pitcher (Walker Buehler) finally managed to only allow 2 runs (!) in the first couple innings against Atlanta and Charlie Morton yesterday and kept it that way into the 9th inning with a 2-2 tie. In the 9th, without Morton pitching, the Dodgers let loose. First Kiké Hernandez struck out and then Will Smith tripled, after a review decided it wasn't a home run, and then Andy Pages struck out. 2 outs. Then the Braves decided to walk Ohtani and then Mookie Betts singled and Smith scored; 3-2. Next Freddie Freeman singled and Atlanta's Jarred Kelenic made a wild error which led to Ohtani and Betts scoring and Freeman at 2nd; 5-2. Then Teoscar Hernandez, Tommy Edman and Max Muncy were up: HOMER! 7-2. HOMER! 8-2. HOMER! 9-2! (There was a pitching change after Teoscar.) Kiké Hernandez, up for the 2nd time, struck out again.

I’m not getting much pleasure out of this season because I remain pissed at ownership for the reasons I stated more than a few times. I still root for them but my emotional investment is not to the level as its been in prior seasons. My significant other thinks I finally have grown up with my fandom towards my sports teams. I tell her it’s old age.:)

Isn't this the same team that had to use a position player to pitch against the Braves in a loss?

I used to pay extra to see the Yankees games on TV but not this year. They haven't been to a World Series since 2009 when they last won it. Teams like the Tampa Bay Rays have made the playoffs five of the last six years, just like the Yankees. Tampa Bay Rays team payroll 88 million, Yankees 308 million (3.5 times the Rays). I just wish the Yankees would stop paying these ridiculous salaries. Let some other team do it. Sucks that the Yankees have to pay high salaries to players that just are not that good anymore or injured every year. Who was that player that came for the Red Sox, I think he had one good season then, injured the rest of his career and the Yankees had to pay him over 20 million a year for what five years?

The player you're thinking of is Jacoby Ellsbury, and that signing was a peek into the disfunction inside the front office that seems to have existed since the late 70's/early 80's and has never completely been eradicated (though there have been failed attempts at reform from time to time, and there was a brief moment of clarity in the early 1990's when The Boss was suspended and Gene Michael had a few years of freedom to rebuild the team after the team bottomed out in 1990).

Just for reference I've been a Yankees fan (living in New England no less) since I was young in the late 70's. I agree with you; I wish the Yankees could get smarter with their payroll but I'm not sure what the answer is at this point since they seem to lack the ability to successfully develop young players (Aaron Judge being the exception; though I think he would have developed for every team).

I know a lot of fans are very unhappy with this World Series drought (I lived it too from 1982 to 1995) but as I get older I just hope for the best and take one season at a time.

It is what it is...

"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain”... in this case, a whole franchise and/or its ownership/leadership, LOL... ;):P

Damn, I thought I was a disenchanted Yankees fan, but you guys have me beat in that regard.:) I don’t think the Yankees have the eternal right to winning WS championships especially not with the current CBA rules and restrictions. However, I also don’t think Brian Cashman should remain the Yankees GM for eternity which is my beef with ownership. The dude lost his GM mojo a long time ago. After 27 years, it’s time for a new person to run the baseball operations with a different perspective and vision. Hal Steinbrenner needs to get off his butt and make the difficult decision to fire his friend. Until that happens, my Yankees fandom will remain lukewarm.

By the way, I still have my YES network subscription along with the Extra Innings baseball package.

Impressive feat by Padres DH Luis Arraez- he went 141 plate appearances without striking out- the longest streak since Juan Pierre 20 years ago.

You are, indeed, correct. Both Miguel Rojas (7th inning) and Kiké Hernandez (8th inning) gave pitching a whirl last Saturday night with a 10-1 score. Kiké likes to pitch, according to manager Dave Roberts, and has done so more than a couple times this year.

Sale vs Wheeler for NL Cy Young?
Sale 17-3, 2.35, more strikeouts and fewer walks than Wheeler.
Wheeler 16-6, 2.56, more innings, more quality starts, and a better WHIP than Sale.
Are there any other NL pitchers in this discussion?

Phillies fans last year and Dodgers fans the year before that, can relate to Kimbrel's ups and downs. Personally, I was always a bit forgiving of his struggles. He being a really nice guy helped.
