Some vets didn't look great either. Deshaun Watson isn't living up to the hype or salary. Kirk Cousins threw two picks and lost to a team that didn't score any TDs. Not to mention the loud, wet fart by the home team in Cincinnati.

Watson looks to be one of the most epic mistakes in pro football history. The Browns would almost be better off just cutting him and eating the money to get him away from their team.

Cousins did not get off to a good start but he is definitely going to need some playing time in that offense. Maybe he gets better as the season moves along. Looks like the Saints got off to a fast start though, so they may be a problem for the Falcons, as are the Buccaneers and I think Mayfield threw 4 TDs.

Bengals fans can't be happy, they lost to a pretty poor Patriots team in a mistake ridden game...at home. Ouch!

However, just week one, so everything can change next week.

Watson and Daniel Jones begin the season, in my opinion, as the biggest veteran problems at QB. These two guys just seem to bring huge problems to the table for their teams.

That is shame regarding Olsen, as I thought he was pretty good. I am ambivalent about Brady - - if he does well, fine. If not, I will do what I do with other announcers I don't like - - either put in my ear buds and listen to music, or just mute the sound. So far, announcers who get this treatment from me are Romo, Joe Buck, and Gus Johnson (Fox college broadcasts).

Hopefully Belichick doesn't ruin the dynamic of the Manning brothers. I enjoy their MNF telecasts, and am disappointed when they are not doing a game.

So, I heard Belichick doing some football talk and I gotta say...he is light years better than Brady. Bill ditched the monotone press conference thing and sounds like a football professor. He may make the Manningcast the best game call on TV. In fact, I think Bill may be the best voice on TV...which is weird to say...but he's got a personality under all that gruff and he is showing it.

Belichick talking football was smart, inciteful, and he sounded great. Brady has kind of an annoying voice, is awkward, and had pretty much nothing to add. He's not Romo annoying, he just sounds like a guy that does not belong in the broadcast booth. He seemed a bit lost and unsure of what to add.

One of the funniest lines about his work calling the game yesterday came from a Brady hater that said "Finally! Something that Brady sucks at!"

Belichick has been like that over the years. He hates talking to the press as a coach and purposely tries to be irritable and annoying, but if you see him at some other event where he can just talk about history and strategy of football, without moronic questions from the press, he's pretty amazing.

I heard a couple bits of Brady's stuff as I watched Red Zone. Not as annoying as Romo, but much like Romo his voice isn't suited for broadcasting. If your voice and/or delivery is annoying as hell, it doesn't much matter what you say.

Yes, Bill is a walking encyclopedia of football and he combines with being able to discuss it in a way that is easy and offhand that actually teaches you about the game. I think he is a natural teacher. If he wants to be relatable to people he is, but yeah, with the press as a coach...wanted to give them zero all the time. Bill also does have a great speaking voice for radio or TV, he sounds good. Tom does not have this. He sounds a bit geeky and he is not good, at least what I heard from yesterday's game, at giving good quick thoughts and incites. He sounds a bit like he is trying to figure out what he should say and/or is saying something scripted or thought out beforehand and just does not sound natural.

The best announcers will sound like they are like a pal watching the game with you, a pal that really knows the game and says interesting things. Brady was in a fog, and seemed totally out of place. I recall someone in broadcasting years ago saying Joe Montana was terrible at calling games. Great QB, obviously understood the game, just was not an announcer. I think Brady is in the same category, unless he somehow improves over time. His speaking voice, when you are just listening to him, is not good though. It does make you want to turn him off.

I will cut him some slack, it was his first game, maybe he will settle in and get better at it. He's kind of the opposite of Romo, in that Tony is always interrupting and spewing nonsense, Tom just seems like he is waiting for when he should come in and is not quite sure what to say.

I still remember seeing the NFL Network's A Football Life episode that focused on Belichek and his persona away from where we traditionally saw him was like night and day. Pretty eye opening.

Daniel Jones is historically bad and the Giants are a joke as long as he's their starter. From PFT:

In the Giants’ loss on Sunday, Daniel Jones didn’t throw a touchdown pass but did throw a pick-six. And that’s become fairly typical for Jones the last couple years.

Since signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants during the 2023 offseason, Jones has only won one game as a starting quarterback. He has thrown only two touchdown passes. And he has thrown three interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.

Throwing more pick-sixes than touchdown passes represents such brutally bad quarterback play that it’s almost hard to believe it’s possible, but that’s what Jones has done.

I just think it is amazing that the Giants did not make a move to bring in some competition for Jones. Teams got players like Justin Fields and Trey Lance at bargain prices. Both have better upside than Jones. Both maybe could turn into something working with Daboll. Jones is likely going to wash out of New York and the league.

The Manning Brothers telecast is a wet dream for football geeks, IMO. They add great insight from the QB perspective, talking about pass patterns, reads, etc. And they can be quite funny. If Belichick does have a good on-air personality, adding his knowledge to Peyton and Eli could be very entertaining.

As for Brady, I did watch some of his debut yesterday. He was indeed a little awkward, and quite boring. I didn't think he added anything to the broadcast. It was his first time on the air, though, so hopefully he gets better. If not, Fox will have an interesting dilemma.

Jets aren't showing much tonight. Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, doesn't seem like much difference. The Jets be the Jets.

Rodgers showed flashes of the sort of play we saw in the past, particularly the TD on the 'free play'. But it wasn't enough against a Niners' offense that imposed their will for a good portion of the game. The Jet's defense did hold them to field goals on multiple drives but it felt like the Niners could do almost anything they wanted when they possessed the football once we got into the second quarter. I am not sure if the Jets' defense has dropped off a bit, or if the Niner's offense is simply that good - maybe a bit of both.

Watched the Manning version of MNF to see how Belichick fared in his initial outing with the bros. They definitely talked over each other at times but I enjoyed their interaction and it looked like they had some fun revisiting the old rivalries. I enjoyed Belichick's participation.

DirecTV and Disney are in the middle of a contract squabble. Since, I'm a DirecTV subscriber so ESPN channels are off the air for me. However, I'm still able to watch MNF games on my local ABC station which isn't owned by Disney. Anyhow, about ten minutes after tonight's game, I did watch the first half of the Manning cast with Belichick on NFL+. They talked over each other as you stated, but it was fun listening to them.

I only watched the first half, but also enjoyed the Manning cast with Belichick. With three people, talking over one another at times is probably inevitable. However, the insights from the guys was priceless. This should be "must see TV" for football fans all season.

Peyton Manning seems like a natural color analyst. He is also light years better than Brady. Yeah, the Manningcast with Bill is the way to watch the Monday nighters. It's official.

Enjoy it this season though because Bill will be back on the sidelines in 2025.

Even without Belichick the past couple of seasons, the Manning cast was much better than listening to Joe Buck. Peyton and Eli have been entertaining and informative since ESPN started this alternate telecast.

On the actual game, well, the 49ers are easily the better team, the NFL experts seem to continually disrespect Brock Purdy, who seems to always perform in ways that help his team. Yeah, he's not as exciting as the other big name QBs, he just gets the job done and minimizes any mistakes. I think the 49ers continue to have one of the top rosters in football, the coach remains excellent, they are a tough team to play and should be a favorite to make the NFC championship game along with the Lions.

I am not seeing whatever the experts see in the Jets. Some really love them and think they are going to compete to win their division. I have also heard, rumors, that it is a nightmare in the Jets building and Rodgers is not exactly well loved by all his teammates. My take on Rodgers is, he might make a play here and there but truth is, it has been a few seasons since he was a real difference maker at QB. His final year with Green Bay was not impressive. I think he's got a long climb up to try to get back to his old level of play, the division includes the Bills and Dolphins, both are tough teams to beat, and so it is not an easy path for the Jets. The game Rodgers had last night, well, it looked like a game from his final season in Green Bay...not much to see.
