Well, that kind of sucked. I was feeling pretty good with JV on the mound sporting a five run lead, but that didn't last long.

On to game 2.

Well said!

I think Verlander has never won a World Series game.
I think Verlander is something like 0 for 6 in World Series play!

But how about that game saving catch by Nick Castellanos to end the 9th inning, that set the table for J.T. Realmuto's Home Run heroics in the 10th? WOW!!

CHEERS! :)

Who’d a thunk the bullpen and defense would come through for the Phils. Alternate universe!

It was kinda interesting(?) seeing Castellanos hesitate and squirm just a bit in the after-game, on-field interview in response to the inevitable (somewhat implicit) question about that... and he said he thinks he may just be better focused on D in (essentially much higher leverage) postseason play, which seems a fairly typical/cliched, fallback response (regardless of whether there's any truth to such). But clearly, he's fully aware of the criticism about his D and agree (enough) about that at least for much of the regular season anyway -- and that's nothing new at all for him... although he certainly hadn't had much postseason experience before this year, especially after his 1st full/rookie year in MLB (when he actually went as a 3B w/ the Tigers as Verlander's teammate and exited w/ a quick 3-game sweep by the Orioles in the ALDS)...

In any case, this definitely looks to have the making of an exciting series w/ the Phills apparently continuing their late-season/postseason hot streak (w/ almost everything falling just enough their way) so far...

The early-in-the-year plan was for a rotating DH. One day it would be Schwarber, the next Castellanos, and then Harper. But Harper's elbow injury forced them to always DH him, forcing Schwarber and Castellanos into more regular defensive roles. So I guess they got better practiced at it!

I'll take the split.
Yes the Phils needed to win one before coming home, but if Nola and Wheeler don’t pitch better in their next start, I don’t see how the Phils can win the series.

I see that Syndergaard is starting tonight. I hope Thomson doesn’t have a pre-determined pitch count, or number of batters. Let Noah go some innings, especially if he’s dealing.

You don't think he'd let Thor go somewhat deeper (at least complete 2 passes thru the Stros' order) even if they have a decent lead and he's dealing?

It’s possible but they haven’t let the extra starter go very far yet.

They could let him get into the order a second time and play it by ear.

May not matter reading weather forecasts for Philly. At least it looks like the Temp is pretty good.
Mid-day it seems the forecasts were fro the rain to arrive 9-10pm, the last TV forecast I saw seems to be a bit more pessimistic with things arriving earlier and
maybe heavier through Midnight + , Tues/Wed/Thurs looks dry and even high 60-70 in the daytime. Apparently the next weather update is around 5-5:30pm and MLB will
make some sort of call 6:30-7

If it's delayed until tomorrow then Philly could either go with Suarez on 3 days rest instead of 2 or move everyone back a day and have Suarez go on full rest.

What do you mean?
Standard time baseball?
I think the Phils played World Series games in 2008, before the clocks were turned back after Halloween. My guess is there has been a handful of games played in standard time.
