It's always fun listening to sports talk here in Dallas after a Cowboys loss, but it was especially fun today.

The unanimous opinion was that it was a great game, the defense was spectacular, and Dak sucks. Everyone is blaming the loss on Dak.

The two interceptions, the almost pick-six, throwing to Cee Dee Lamb when they split the zone and Warner broke for Lamb leaving Hilton wide open, making high risk throws on second down, etc., etc.
He is just a poor decision maker. Who got outplayed by a rookie.

They also mentioned how Purdy made one bad throw and Shanahan was immediately in his face screaming at him. No coach on the Cowboys sidelines did anything like that.

A few other notes, Zeke clearly has no legs left and no one expects him back next year. Dalton Schultz is not an $11 million dollar a year tight end. After two consecutive 12 win seasons, two consecutive playoff appearances (and one win) McCarthy is safe, but Kellen Moore probably needs to go.

Seems like the delay of game issue could be solved by just eliminating the need for the official to turn their head from the ball to the clock back to the ball. Like adding some sort of audible signal to the play clock.

How much criticism does the Cowboys owner get from the local press and fans? As an outsider looking in, it seems to me Jerry has made it crystal clear over the years through his actions that he runs and oversees every facet of the franchise. It also seems to me that Jerry is the #1 reason why that team perpetually comes up short.

Dak Prescott is a tradeable asset and other teams would gladly take him, so they can move him if they want. Jerry Jones and his son are unpredictable. Pretty sure Sean Payton is going to Denver but there are rumors Jones may try to talk to him before he decides. I think the Broncos are trying to seal the deal with him as quickly as they can so nobody else lands him. The Saints now want more than a first round pick as compensation for him and so they will get more than this year's first from whomever wins the Payton sweepstakes.

Rumor about Rodgers going to the Jets. Peter King wrote in his weekly column, speculating the Packers would be looking to get 2 first round picks in return. Zero chance any team would give this much for a QB that is almost 40, no matter how desperate a team is (the Jets are certainly desperate for some success). A lock that Zach is gone, if Aaron is dealt there.

It looks like the USFL is coming back to Michigan this season. Not that I will be watching this time, but I did reminisce a little about the original Michigan Panthers, who played at the old Pontiac Silverdome. I was explaining to my wife about going to some of those games (this was before we met), including one where Michigan Wolverines legend Anthony Carter suffered a broken leg in front of us.

That led to telling her the tale of one of the greatest plays in Michigan Wolverines football history, completed by Anthony Carter and described by the incomparable Michigan radio broadcaster Bob Ufer. I really miss Ufer.

Latest reports are that Payton is burning his bridges by talking too much, and so he is unlikely to be hired by anyone this year.

He’s apparently WAY out of consideration by the Broncos.

Maybe he was never that close to being hired in the first place. Some in the media had Harbaugh to the Broncos as pretty much a done deal, too, and it was never anywhere close to happening.

Speaking of possible coaching hires- during the CBS pregame show before the Bengals win last Sunday, one of the talking heads said Jeff Saturday is a real possibility to get the Colts job. If I were a fan of that team, this would drive me nuts- it would definitely mean Irsay is calling the shots. The largest blown lead in league history screams that the guy is in over his head.

The owner always calls the shots with HC hirings. The GM might generate the list of candidates to interview, but it's the owners that make the final choice as to who's hired.

It's already started. Frank Reich was just hired by Carolina. If the hire is an assistant with one of the final four teams, though, it will usually happen after this weekend.
Wow! Reich to Carolina. Who saw this coming, and is it a good choice? A shame that the interim coach didn’t get the job- they played pretty well at the end of the season.

On the Broncos job, I read he conflicted with someone in ownership and whatever was said, it pushed Payton to not want the job. Or at least that is the story his side is telling.
