Darnold and Mayfield were both drafted in
2018, so both are on their option years of their rookie contract. Seems to me the Panthers are kicking the tires on all 3 guys,
and they aren’t committed to any of these guys long term, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they are in the QB market next year.

By the way, this is an unusual situation in that Darnold and Mayfield were both drafted high in the first round by other teams, and are now teammates 4 years later. I bet this hasn’t happened often, if ever.
Try the Raiders back in 1980, with Jim Plunkett and Dan Pastorini. First and third overall picks in 1971 draft. By the way, Archie Manning was the 2nd pick in that draft.

Similar, but not quite the same. Plunkett played 5 Seasons in New England, then 2 with the 49ers before going to Oakland, and Pastorini was in Houston for 9 years. My point, I guess I didn’t make it very well, is that it’s more accepted nowadays that teams show little or no patience with young starting QBs, now matter how high up in the draft they are selected. Darnold was traded during last season, right? That means he wasn’t even in NY for 4 full seasons.

When I responded to your post, I did so on my cell phone in a movie theater. I didn't grasp the four year requirement in your post and just fixated on first round picks from the same draft.

It was still a pretty cool response. I didn't remember Pastorini playing for the Raiders.

That new stadium name for the Steelers kind of sucks. I wonder how many Steelers fans will call it by that new name?
I saw that name- doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue like Heinz Field did. Steelers fans should just start calling the stadium “the joint”.

I don't recall that either. Here is a 1980 Topps. football card. I had stop collecting cards by then 1980.

Article at nfl.com about the Texans reaching settlements with some of Watson’s accusers. This could end with the team losing draft picks and fines as discipline from the league.

I remember Pastorini as a raider only because I grew up in Houston and we got Stabler in that trade.

It was the tail end of his career and he wasn't very impressive as an Oiler. But what hype there was. I had a couple of unopened cans of Snake Cola, until I went to camp and my Mom threw them out while cleaning my room

Gad, mothers do that, don’t they. I had this coffee can of childhood marbles that got tossed while I was in the Army. Don’t worry, Mom, I still love you. RIP.

This is the preliminary scoop:

"Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $230.5 million with $160 million guaranteed. Murray now has the second-highest average annual value of a QB contract at $46.1 million per year."

Not sure his results meet that level of compensation, but OK.

So much for all that drama.
Interesting that the most drama between QB and club in recent memory has been between the Packers/Favre and the Cardinals/Murray. They’re now the 2 highest paid QBs in the game, so now maybe we won’t have to listen to that horse shit any time soon.
