Kimbrell reported around 3/45M with a 4th year team option I'm assuming at least 17-18M
But the cubs like to overpay for pitching.
Interesting to see if Kimbrel pushes the Cubs over the top. I still think it’s dumb to have Schwarber leading off, but I guess they don’t have a great option there (Fowler was awesome as their leadoff hitter when they won it all).
Keuchel pitches in Gwinnett tomorrow night. Just down the road from me. It’s supposed to rain quite a bit this weekend.
If it clears up, I may try and take my boys tomorrow.
Did anyone hear the radio interview between Phils manager Gabe Kapler and radio personality Angelo Cataldi? Wow.
Yes. It was a joke on Cataldi’s part.
Him saying he speaks for the fans and saying Kapler is out of touch with the fans is the exact opposite.
Cataldi has no idea what the regular fans are thinking.
Cataldi is overbearing, and at times a drama queen. I can’t help but dislike Kapler though-
he comes across as arrogant (it’s the way he speaks, like he’s talking down to everyone), and
he’s positive to the point of being unrealistic at times. During yesterday’s pregame show on
94 WIP, he said the Phils will be fine when the injured bullpen guys return. No- the bullpen wasn’t great when those guys were pitching. They really need to upgrade.
Pivetta a beauty today- his first complete game. He allowed the run in the first 3 batters of the game, then slammed the door in the Reds faces. Gabe gets credit for letting him finish.
Looking at the numbers, so far Schwarber as lead off is working out.
I guess Schwarber is doing OK there, but I wouldn’t count on him to stay warm throughout the year- too many strikeouts in his game. The Cubs starting pitchers will be the main reason they swim or sink (the Kimbrel acquisition will definitely help too).
I didn't mention anything about the Cub's pitching, I simply pointed out that Schwarber is working out as lead off. His number's in June are fantastic but he won't keep those up.
The Red Sox are sinking like the Titanic, and they’re clearly frustrated (Benintendi and Cora got tossed).
Pretty dumb to be arguing about strikes when you ground out, rather than strike out. If you have a problem with a called third strike, I can sort of understand saying something. But to ground out, then start arguing about the first pitch of the at-bat, pretty foolish.
Umpires put up with far too much, IMO, as it is. More players should be tossed more often.
Let’s go Mets!!!
Sox win in a chicken shit way- a walk-off walk.
That’s unacceptable- major league pitchers should never allow this to happen- I’d rather see the pitcher groove a ball down the middle of the plate, and make the batter earn it.
1999 Mets. Kenny Rogers
The Rangers should send that guy back to the minors. Completely ridiculous.
The Braves are white hot, while the Pirates are sinking like a stone (their pitching is letting them down). This likely means the Pirates won’t be buyers before July 31 (they are a team that doesn’t do much buying even under the Best circumstances).
Agreed. Braves are white hot!
MLB in Omaha!!!
