That drop for The Lion King is about as large as you could get without causing total panic. Is that a new record opening box office for Tarantino?

That’s what happens when a movie is so incredibly front loaded - no one gets shut out of an opening like Lion King anymore, so everyone who wanted to see it had that chance. And theatrical rewatch value isn’t what it once was, particularly when it’ll be available as a paid streaming purchase in two months, on physical media and streaming rental in three months, and available virtually for free on subscription streaming services in four months.

The movie still made $75m in its 2nd weekend - that's not chicken feed.

    And it's at $350m US - and $962m WW - after about a week and a half.

I doubt anyone at Disney's gonna panic about those #s. Even if "Lion King" failed to earn another penny, it'd still have turned a tidy profit...

Seems like "Hobbs and Shaw" will find it tough to turn a profit. BOM says it had a $200m budget, and it's at "only" $332m right now worldwide.

Though it still hasn't opened in China, so maybe that'll push it toward the sales it needs!

China would certainly help it a lot. The Fast and Furious films do massive business there.

Far From Home will definitely surpass Spider-Man 2 to become the second highest-grossing Spider-Man film. But it's looking less likely that it will make it to $400 million. 41 days into its run, Homecoming had made 92.5 percent of its total gross. If we figure that the current gross of Far From Home, $370,972,490, represents 92.5 percent of its total gross, then we're looking at a $401,051,340 domestic total -- just over $400 million and only a couple million shy of the first Spider-Man (not adjusted for inflation). But Far From Home has been fading faster than Homecoming did.

Unsurprisingly, Toy Story 4 has now crossed $1 billion worldwide, becoming the sixth movie to do so this year.

It is the fourth Pixar title to do this following Toy Story 3, Finding Dory and Incredibles 2.

Of the others this year, four are also Disney -- Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, Aladdin and The Lion King -- giving them five billion-dollar titles this year alone. So far, the only one this year to gross a billion that isn't Disney is still Disney-related; although paid for and released by Sony, Spider-Man is still set in Disney's MCU, so they have a vested interest in it doing well even though they don't get that gross.

Plus, Disney still has Frozen 2 and The Rise of Skywalker on the way later this year, so they very well could end up having seven billion dollar titles released in a single year.

On another note, sometime today Far From Home will pass the domestic gross of Spider-Man 2 to become the second-highest-grossing Spider-Man film domestically. (Actually, it probably already has and will be reported officially tomorrow.) Currently, Box Office Mojo has Far From Home at $373,357,780 versus Spider-Man 2's $373,585,825, so they should switch places tomorrow.
