As previously mentioned, Dark Phoenix had the worst opening ever for an X-Men film. By a wide margin.

Godzilla drops almost 68%. Ouch

Great hold for John Wick. Terrific box office improvements with each chapter.

Aladdin looks to finish with close to $300 million.

And Avengers is still chasing Avatar.

Ouch for both of this weekend's new opener sequels.

I guess the box office will wake back up for Toy Story 4.

Am I the only one who thinks Men In Black is going to flop? And I mean like people-lose-their-jobs kind of flop.
It has a relatively low budget at a reported $110 million, and is a co-production of Sony/Amblin with companies in Abu Dhabi and China, so the risk is actually quite low. And with its globe-trotting setting, it should play well worldwide.

It'll be interesting to see how it does perform. Chris Hemsworth has a history of bombing when he's the lead outside of the Thor/Avengers movies.

I get the sense that the movie wasn't made for the U.S. audience and that any business it does here will simply be gravy.
Most likely correct. I think we'll see more of this as the worldwide box office continues to become larger and more important than simply the North America market.

As Malcom noted, the financials aren't particularly steep on it for a film of that size. However, just personally I don't really want to see it, and I don't know anyone who is chomping at the bit for it. I might consider it if the reviews are great, but the trailers haven't impressed me, even though we know from Ragnarok that Hemsworth and Thompson are a winning combination.

I had really good luck seeing Dark Phoenix at my local, normally unimpressive Regal. Even though they don't have an AMC-type subscription plan so it costs me a lot more to go there, there's something about being able to leave the house 10 minutes before showtime and then being back home 10 minutes after the movie ends, vs. a much longer trip to the AMC. So I think MIB: International could be on my radar if I wind up with nothing to do and an urge to go out, but I won't be upset if I miss it either.

My family are going to see it, if only because it re-teams Thor and Valkyrie from the MCU! But I was a little surprised this afternoon, when I checked the Cinemark app for Thursday's showing in XD, not one ticket had been sold! I didn't expect a packed house, but maybe a few tickets had been sold? Oh well.

Wow, outside of Disney, the big budget new releases this summer have been one major disappointment after another. Sure hope Disney continues its hot streak next weekend with Toy Story 4.

Chris Hemsworth's inability to open a picture where he's not playing Thor continues.

It’s a shame because I think he’s a much better actor than he gets credit for, but he’s my go-to example on how movie stars no longer exist. People come to see the character or the franchise, not the actor.

As for the Dark Phoenix hold, that’s in Amazing Spider-Man 2 territory.
