I was listening to Eddie Trunk’s Volume show on SiriusXM today, and he said the Ravens are hoping to fill their stadium at 20% capacity for games this season. I don’t see this happening- even though this will be worked out for the sake of social distancing, this goes against the large gatherings limits that states have put in place. I think all the teams have to have a uniform rule about fans in the stadiums this year (there likely won’t be any fans present).

If they play, and the stadiums are empty, that is going to be one weird TV experience. Will the players have to social distance? The encroachment penalty could have a new meaning.

I think we are sliding into territory where the NFL season may not happen. The NFL has not said this and are sticking to the idea games will be played in September but it seems this will be difficult to accomplish in a way that "protects player safety" which seems near impossible in a full contact sport like this with a virus that spreads so rapidly and easily. They will have regular testing of players, which has already begun with 95 players testing positive in the first round of testing.

There are a group of owners that want to push the season start to October but the NFL has refused to do this so far and reportedly do not want to because, and this is certainly odd, the president of the United States has been hounding NFL officials that they must play the season no matter what and they must kick things off in September on time.

We'll see how this tug of war plays out but as much as it would be fun to have football games I am now not seeing a way that could happen.

On another note, it has been reported that the team formally known as the Washington Redskins has purchased the name Sentinels. No announcement on if that is the new name but they do own the website www.dcsentinels.com as well.
