The first two Toy Story movies and A Bug's Life weren't nominated for Best Feature Animation because the category didn't exist when those films were released. Toy Story was voted a Special Oscar since the feature animation category didn't exist to honor it.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea the category was so new. Also, up until 2010, there usually only 3 pictures up for the award. It's been 5 ever since.

And that's because the number of animated features increases each year due to their popularity. The number of nominees is determined by the number of potential animated films submitted for award consideration.

I want this to happen for two reasons: (1) I really love the song; and (2) it'll give Lin-Manuel Miranda his EGOT.
If Miranda wins and Oscar, he won't just claim the EGOT, he'll have the even rarer PEGOT - the P is for Pultizer Prize. Only two PEGOT winners exist, Miranda could be the third.

So I've now watched the 4 BP nominations that got released on Blu-ray prior to the awards ceremony. I can't rank them all yet, But here's the work-in-progress:
1. Manchester by the Sea ****
2. Hell or High Water ****
3. Hacksaw Ridge ***1/2
4. Arrival ***

Moonlight arrives on Blu-ray this coming Tuesday and I have a feeling it may vie for the top of my list.
Happy viewing tomorrow night and may the Best Picture win! ;)

Anyone else?

That's what I would like to know. I have my computer all cleaned up and ready to go!!!!! The chats here are always fun and fine to contribute to. I will give my predictions after I finish my Oscar Run as I am presently watching Manchester By The Sea. So far, so good. Casey is impressing in his lead role. I like this movie already.

I've seen all of the BP nominees except Fences, and most of the acting nominees. While I think La La Land will easily take home the most wins, I believe the Academy will spread things around a bit more than some might expect. Given that, here are my picks for the winners.

In categories where I have seen enough of the nominees to make an informed choice, I have put my personal choice (if I had a vote) in parentheses. And yes, I know Amy Adams wasn't nominated, but she should have been, and these are my fantasy votes, so there! :P

PICTURE: La La Land (Arrival)
DIRECTOR: Damien Chazelle - La La Land (Denis Villeneuve - Arrival)
BEST ACTOR: Denzel Washington - Fences (Casey Affleck - Manchester By The Sea)
BEST ACTRESS: Isabella Hupert - Elle (Amy Adams - Arrival)
SUPPORTING ACTOR: Mahershala Ali - Moonlight (Mahershala Ali - Moonlight)
SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Viola Davis - Fences (Michelle Williams - Manchester By The Sea)
FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM: The Salesman
MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING: A Man Called Ove (Star Trek: Beyond)
CINEMATOGRAPHY: La La Land (La La Land)
FILM EDITING: Arrival (Arrival)
SHORT ACTION LIVE FILM: Silent Nights
SOUND MIXING: La La Land (La La Land)
VISUAL EFFECTS: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story)
ORIGINAL SCORE: La La Land (La La Land)
ORIGINAL SONG: "City of Stars" - La La Land ("Audition" - La La Land)
SOUND EDITING: La La Land (Arrival)
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Manchester By The Sea (Hell Or High Water)
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Moonlight (Arrival)
COSTUME DESIGN: La La Land (La La Land)
DOCUMENTARY: 13th
SHORT DOCUMENTARY: Watani: My Homeland
PRODUCTION DESIGN: La La Land (Passengers)
ANIMATED: Kubo And The Two Strings
ANIMATED SHORT: Piper

And my personal rankings of the BP nominees (with Fences TBD):

Arrival

Hell Or High Water
La La Land
Manchester By The Sea
Moonlight

Hacksaw Ridge
Hidden Figures
Lion

Arrival is my clear number 1 choice. The next four are all superb films, and I've placed them in alphabetical order because they're very close in my book. The last three are good films, but not in the same class as the first five IMO.

Congrats to Mahershala Ali! He's done great work on TV (The 400, House Of Cards, etc) for years - so happy to see him break through in film in such a big way, Absolutely deserving of this honor.
