Not that it matters a whit, but another review states that the video on the discs is actually 720p, not 1080i as stated on the package, and this is most likely true considering that the Fox network broadcasts only in 720p. I've always wondered why the 720p spec wasn't used more on Blu-rays considering that it uses a lot less space and would be ideal for TV broadcast material.

As one of those long suffering Cubs fans I already have the World Series highlight film (recommend it for any Cubs fan) and I'll be adding this to my collection also. I'll probably throw way Games 1, 3 and 4. :) Just kidding.

Now if I could only get recordings of the Cubs radio broadcasts of the games my collection would be complete.

The eight disc set has the WGN audio. There are four options Fox tv, Chicago radio, Cleveland radio, and Spanish.

Exactly. FOX broadcasts in 720p so why would it be converted to 1080i for blu-ray? It certainly wouldn't be the first time that the packaging was wrong for any blu-ray specs.

The audio is actually from 670 The Score since as of 2014 WGN 720 does not broadcast the Cubs on Chicago radio anymore. It's an honest mistake though considering the Cubs were on WGN for 90 years.

Also, why isn't the FOX audio in 5.1 as originally broadcast? Was it in 2.0 and had a 5.1 tag? I thought all sporting events on the major networks were broadcast in native 5.1 the last 10 years or so? Especially when you consider how they mic-up the games these days:

And, why call this a Collector's Edition yet not include the highlight film? Would throwing a ninth disc into the set have been so prohibitive? Can you call it a Collector's Edition while making customers buy a separate product to have everything associated with the 2016 World Series?

These are rhetorical questions only Shout Factory knows the answers to but they are a couple of my complaints with this set.

I just picked this up the Blu-ray of this on sale at Barnes & Noble for $47.99. ($52.55 w/tax) Free shipping, won't get it until after Christmas but it's a pretty good deal.

Radio broadcasts as alternate audio has been standard on the World Series releases since 2007. The two team local broadcasts and the Spanish broadcasts are always included. However, the ESPN Radio national broadcast is never included (unfortunate in more recent years since I like the pairing of Dan Shulman and Aaron Boone).

A program can be shot and recorded in one resolution and broadcast live in another, just as when I shoot and record live events in 4K, stream them live for broadcast at 1080p, and the final airing is in 480i. There is absolutely no reason to think that just because the World Series was broadcast in 720p that it was also recorded that way.

It's a Collector's Edition because you're collecting the entirety of each game of the entire World Series, rather than a heavily edited "highlight reel".

I just ordered my copy a little while ago. I look forward to bringing it on home before the New Year's weekend is over.
