It's funny you say this because I went into MK with it being my second Anderson movie. I really, really, really disliked TRT so I stayed away from his work until this one. I just updated my list with Moonrise Kingdom. I've been processing this movie for a week now and I have to conclude that it's the most frustrating movie I've seen in a long time. It is so beautifully shot, expertly crafted, with a great use of music and a great cast, but.... it's all wasted on a creepy, weird-for-weird's sake story devoid of any real humanity. Out of the other Wes Anderson movies I've only seen The Royal Tenenbaums, and while I didn't love that one either, it had a better balance of style and substance than this.
