I don't know if this is a one-shot deal or not, but Jared Butler and I went to the tour of the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and, when visiting the projection booth and hearing about the few times that they've shown real 70mm films, we learned from the projectionist that the Egyptian is going to show the remastered 2001 in 70mm for a two-week period at the end of December.
We were told that 2001 was actually shown in 35mm so this is likely to be a blow-up and not using the full resolution and picture information of a true 70mm print.
I figure this news will be enough to give Jack Briggs a stroke.

That is encouraging news, Mark. I just hope it's not one of those LA/NY things and the film gets a wider release. There is no film I want to see more on the big screen again than 2001. No general release will give ME a stroke! :)

Mark. "2001" was shot in 70mm, not 35mm. Officially it was filmed in Super Panavision 70.
Jack Briggs will be ecstatic over this.

Nah, I don't think Jack will even notice unless we tell him.

Hey fella . . . I bet you're still livin' in your parent's cellar . . . downloading pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar . . . and posting "Me too!" like some brain-dead AOL-er . . . I should do the world a favor and cap ya' like Old Yeller . . . you're just about as useless as MPEGs [sic] to Hellen Keller.

I had my Jeff Ulmers and my Jack Briggs all mixed up. That's what happens when you post at 2:30 AM!
And Peter, Jared and I were told that 2001 was initially shot and projected in 35mm, but I'm glad if I'm wrong here.
