    Father John, you're still in decision mode! I believe you've stated a preference for direct-view sets. And with your budget, a Sony KV-36HS510 might do the trick just fine. It's a 4:3 model with a genuine, user-accessible 16:9 mode that will show you DVDs in all their 480p glory. And a few months down the line, when the high-def bug temptation proves too hard to resist, your set will show you gorgeous 1080i images after you purchase the appropriate tuner. Good luck! JB
