2 Disc Starship Troopers I've been cheated (1 Viewer)

M

MaxY

Just got back from Best Buy and started opening my DVDs.

When I opened the new 2 disc version of Starship Troopers, the disc with the movie on it wasn't in there. ARRGGHHH!!!!

Now I gotta visit the Best Buy Customer Service desk tomorrow and I have never not once come away from the desk happy. I hope they don't try to claim I am pulling something on them.

It was sealed and had a sticker on the wraper saying it was 2 discs but did not have security stickers on it.

Oh Well I hope i don't have to fight with them to make it right. Maybe they will be wise and notice that my reciept has almost $300 in DVDs on it and they will just figure I am a good customer and replace it.

Anyone else had any problem with missing discs on this title?

Hiya Max!
Just posted a similar story over here!
Similar except that the plastic on my DVD had been opened.
Good luck! Report back on how BestBuy handles your complaint.

hasn't happened to me, but a friend bought the Die Hard collection from Amazon, and found that in the Die Hard with a Vengeance case, he had two Disc 2s and no Disc 1 (i.e. no movie).

amazingly, Amazon shipped a complete Die Hard collection as a replacement, and told him to keep the "defective" set, as it cost too much to ship back. so he sold Die Hard 1 and 2 to someone who didn't want Die Hard 3 anyway, and effectively covered his cost for whole set...

So what is the final verdict? I do not own the old version nor the new one yet but it's been on my wantlist for some time now. The few rewievs i've read regarding the new version are positive although most of you here doesn't seem to agree on that. Personally i am not allowed to even have an opinion on either one because i haven't seen neither of them nor will i have any possibility to see before buying. So i wonder now which version is the better alternative? Considering the price difference between the two versions i am more for the old one but nevertheless the new documentary would be nice to own and the cardboard packaging is better aswell IMO. Plese help me out here!

John,
There aren't much whereabouts in Plant City. :)
I live north of town off of 39.
You know we are putting together a Tampa HT meet. I am pretty sure that it is going to be on June 15th and held in Temple Terrace. Contact me by E-mail if you are interested in going.
As for the Missing Disc, I plan to hit Best Buy this afternoon, oh wait maybe I should say I plan to go there this afternoon, I only plan to hit them if they refuse to exchange it. :)

I had a similar experience, but with a 2-disc CD set that I bought. It took a hell of a lot of explaining, assurances that all I wanted was an exchange not a refund, etc. It's reasons like this that I do all I can to not patronize Best Buy.

Good luck!

It's unfortunate that the attitude against best buy is taken for returns.

You know how many people out there have returned stuff empty, missing, or with the wrong pieces in it?

For a long time they had huge issues with kids buying a Playstation when a new model came out, and then returning their old one in the box for a full refund. For a while BB wasn't even taking PS back in the midwest.

My employeer sells a lots of computers to them for internal use, you hear all sorts of crazy stories.

I've found if you go in, act nice, and explain what happened and ESPECIALLY if you return it the same day (unless you bought 5 min before closing) you don't have too much of an issue with them.

I had the same situation at Best Buy with another DVD, single disk. I went back nervous that they thought I was trying to get two for the price of one. I was extremely pleased with thier customer service and attitude. They even retrieved a replacement copy for me, opened it too verify the contents, and apologized for the whole situation.

The only time I ever had an issue with Best Buy was when an uninformed employee told me I could get a refund on a dvd I had found cheaper elsewhere. He told me that they had given too many and were not doing it anymore. After calling the manager over and asking them where it said limited returns only on there 30 day return policy ... he gave me the difference + 10% and apologized for the "trainee."

I think it's sort of hit-or-miss. I was really POed with them for awhile, but started visiting again just to browse. I noticed that the help was MUCH friendlier, so I bought a CD. I asked to exchange it for the HDCD version, and they said no problem. However -- and I swear this is true -- the attendent reeked of Jack Daniels. He seemed really really stoned!

I always open up and inspect my DVDs before I leave the parking lot. Just to avoid such hassles.
Peace Out~:D

Ron,
Not always that easy with all those security tags especially when you just bought 17 DVDs. :)
The Good news is I just got back and they were actually very friendly and quick to offer to replace it.
I had never had a good experince at the Best Buy Customer Service Desk before. They handled things very well and I can only say things have changed for the better I guess.
John,
you really should try to come to our Tampa HT Meet. Robert "Obi" George is going to show up there as well.

oh i know that feeling, it happens to me often, don't know how these dvds end up in my hands. takes quite a few mins to take the security stickers off and stuff. so i go home, and take that stuff. when i ran in to trouble with discs i bought in the past, been pretty easy for me to return them.
but anyways, glad things worked out max and you got a replacement :)

On this note:

What is with these ultra cheap digipacks. I was going to purchase this title, but at my Best Buy, the DVD looked like it was basically falling apart there on the shelf.

I don't mind digipacks (Pearl Harbor, Sixth Sense, ...) - but these are ridiculous. Ultra think cardboard smash around 2 disc trays. The entire package was skewed due to the shrink wrap.

I don't see how this is going to hold about on a shelf surrounded by other discs. If they would have used thicker cardboard - it would have been better. They did a good job with Jerry Maquire - what happened.

Is this ultra cost cutting or what? What next - CD envelopes?

Larry,
I have to agree with you, both with my first copy that was missing the disc and when I got a second replacement copy, I had to search through them to find copies that weren't all lobsided and squished funny.

The only case I dislike more is the ones with Legend and American Pie UE in it.

Max-

Emailed you back. Would love to come if you will have me.

On a related not, I got Jet Grind Radio for the DC a few Christmas' ago. When I opened the game, there was no disc. There was just a severely scratched clear plastic disc where the game should have been. The store gave my Mom a hassle, but they finally exchanged it.

I just bought Starship Troopers at Best Buy and noticed that the disc were one color...Turquoise. Can anyone confirm that their version has Turquoise? Or did I get a defective version? it just seems odd that in the middle of full color artwork there are two discs that do not match the rest of the packaging.
