I have 2 Digital Pro Audio tower speakers that are almost brand new. These retailed for $1000 a piece new! I am selling both of them for only $500 ($250 a piece, but I will not split them up). These are extremely high quality speakers, and alone are enough to put to shame most systems with 5 speakers and a subwoofer. For pics or questions email me at [email protected]. I also have a pansonic receiver and sony 5 disc changer. I will sell all of this together for $650 or b/o. Pickup in MA preferred but I will ship if necessary.

I can't even believe this...I bought these speakers out of a Black Lincoln Navigator from two guys that said some Mexicans had loaded the wrong pallet. I have owned these speakers for over 3 years now, and I have never heard of this scam before!!! You may think I am simple...but I was never really big into home audio, so I would know the difference between high quality speakers and run-of-mill ones. These sounded pretty damn impressive to me...maybe because I have never blasted them too high. This is very frustrating and disconcerning to me. How can tell if these are really fake? The guy even pulled out a brochure stating the retail price was $1200 each...and my cousing purchased a surround sound system from them too. I don't understand...do they make these speakers, or take out the good speakers from the box, and replace them? They came with boxes and everything? Is there any chance these are real? Like I said, they didn't have a white van, they were two clean cut guys in a Black Lincoln Navigator in Rhinebeck, New York. PLEASE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP give me more details about this, I'd appreciate it. This is obviously the first time I have come across this, I just joined the forums today since I figured it would be a good place to sell my speakers. Thanks for any help you can offer. My email is [email protected]. Like I said though, I listened to them and they sound pretty damn good to me....

Are you f#$%ing serious!?! How is that possible? My parents have a low-line panasonic home theatre system from Wal Mart that cost about $250, and these two speakers alone blow it out of the water...are you sure these couldn't be real?? Like I said I bought these like 3 years ago...when did this scam originate. The guys were in a very nice Navigator, not a white van either. I mean, wouldn't the enclosure alone be worth that? I don't understand how this works...please explain it to me since I obviously got bent over and f$%#ec in the ass. They are identical to Digital Pro Audio speakers i've seen...how can I tell if they're definitely knock offs...and only $30!?!?! That can't be possible, my sisters little stereo system from Circuit City cost $100, and it sounds like absolute crap....

These scams have been around for a few years now, Navigator/white van, it's the same scenario. They lie- show you a catalog on how much they're "worth", and hook you in. Granted, I have heard these speakers before and to be honest, they're worth no more than $50-75. I mean, even if you wanted to ship them, I've bet the shipping costs themselves might not be worth it.

But, you do admit to this, and it doesn't seem that you're trying to scam people... so goodluck on your sale. -Ken

Of course I admit it...I have been using these for 3 years now. I obviously don't know too much about home audio, that's why I jumped on the deal. I thought I was something special when I got $1200 speakers for a wicked good price. Like I said, my cousin even bought the surround sound system. The two guys seemed legit too, not shady or anything..like good salesmen. The whole situation didn't really seem odd...the only thing i suspected was that they were hot...but then the guy showed us the order that the wrong pallot was loaded. The funniest thing is, this happened at the parking lot of a Phantom Gardner in New York...a friggin gardening place, kind of in the middle of nowhere...so I would have had no reason to suspect people searching out to scam in that area...just totally friggin weird that I am finding out about this scam three years later. How long has this been going on for?

Well the OP keeps asking how these scams work....NOT how the scam is done but how the speakers are made and how everyone here can speak definitively with respect to their quality.

He keeps asking for details but gets general answers regarding the scam only. He states he has listened to the speakers compared to more expensive ones and they sound good or better. To be specific his questions were:

"How can tell if these are really fake? ...I don't understand...do they make these speakers, or take out the good speakers from the box, and replace them? They came with boxes and everything? Is there any chance these are real?"

I do not have the information he is seeking but some clearly do if you can speak to what he has...as you have.

Give the guy some detailed information.

How is this?
I knew of a guy who bought some of these speakers, and when I told him he had been scammed he was pissed off. He let me examine them because we were both curious as to their construction. They were made of cheap 1/2 mdf with no bracing and a little glue slopped around the inside of the cabinet. The drivers were of the cheapest quality, think the paper cone b*se drivers. There was no crossover! The speakers were wired directly to the input cup. They sure looked "shiny" on the outside, but I couldn't believe that you could actually make a speaker this bad.
To the OP, you are just going to have to live with the mistake because you will not get your money back from them. Please don't sell them to anyone else, just end the cycle.

These speakers are manufactured to be sold this way. The whole brand and the name is a farce. The speakers are made with extremely cheap parts and low quality enclosures overseas. The only place that you could buy these speakers (before ebay) was out of the back of trucks. It is a very well organized scam. Everything you were shown was fake, from the brochure with the outragous retail price to the story about the Mexicans with the wrong palet.
These guys wake up in the morning. Go to a warehouse full of these speakers, load up a few pairs and drive around metro's looking for anyone who will beleive there story and fork over $100.

The speakers themselves are obviously real. Its the value that is false. You were scammed only in the sense that you didnt get a "great deal on high quality speakers". You got a decent deal on low quality made in china garbage.

Imagine a car dealer passing off an Escort as a Porsche.

Well, thanks all for the help, I guess I just got screwed...although I didn't lose too much money thank god..my cousin kept talking them down. I guess it's not as bad as losing $500 for one. I guess I'll just have to give these to someone as a Christmas present or something. I'm gonna do a test though, my brother has very nice Klipsch speakers and receiver(that are real), I'm gonna hook them up and do a comparison...Thanks again guys, but that still doesn't answer the question why the speakers look different in them..for example there are three on ebay alone right now, two have the black colored speakers like mine, while the other pair has gold colored speakers?? Can someone explain this? Where are these warehouses that hold all these speakers? How do people get jobs doing this sorta crap?

If there is money to be made someone will be doing it. I had this scam happen to me before and I almost fell for it. I was very tempted but the whole scenario seemed very shady. I`m glad my instincts took over cuz back then I didn`t know about audio either.

I have seen this scam too. A buddy of mine fell for it a couple of years ago. Same brand you have Matt. He brought them over to my house and we listened to them on my separates system. Very muddy sound(i understand why now). I hate to see people scammed like this. All we can do is get the word out about these scams.

i guess i'm just confused...i obviously haven't heard $1000 speakers before i bought these...so i really had nothing to compare them to...but they sound pretty damn good..maybe because i never blasted them, and have always used them in my room, which isn't very large and the sound echos...i also have them only hooked up to a cheaper model panasonic receiver. i use just the speakers and the receiver w/out any surround, etc...and i think it sounds pretty damn good. a lot better than any surround sound system that you buy at circuit city for $500 that includes a subwoofer in fact. i'm just confused i guess...a little angry that i thought i was getting a deal, but i guess i can't complain, they are probably equivalent to the quality i would have got spending the same amount at circuit city, best buy..etc

Matt,
I mean no offense but many, many people think that Bose speakers sound good as well. They simply haven't heard a decent, or very good, system so they have no basis for comparison. Go to a "hi-fi" store and listen to a budget system, then an expensive system, and you will get a feel for speakers that sound good. If you ever want to put together a really good sounding system without spending much money the people here on the forum will give you great advice.

Hey, I really want to thank all the people on here for the wealth of information they have provided. I was never really huge into home audio, always loved car audio...but obviously you're going to get better acoustics in the house...maybe that's why I thought the speakers sounded good (compared to my car system). Anyways, I guess I'll hae to live with my mistake, and like I said maybe they'll make a good re-gift as a christmas present or something. I wouldn't try to pawn them off on someone for more than they're worth. Thanks again guys...take care all!

They probably just threw them together with whatever parts they had on hand, thats the most likely reason for the different drivers.
