16:9 vs 4:3

    First, what are we talking about here? Whats the difference? Sorry for the ignorance.

    This refers to the shape of the screen - a 16x9 set has a screen 1 unit high and 1.78 units wide; a 4x3 set is 1 unit high and 1.33 units wide. 4x3 is the screen shape we've had since television was in its infancy, and is close to the shape of old movies.
    A 16x9 set is a wider rectangle. HDTV shows and many post-1954 movies are in this general shape.
