Hi All,

Due to various limitations, my prosective home theatre room in my basement will be nearly square, coming out very close to 15x15.

I understand that this is clearly not optimal for accoustics, but was wondering if there was anything I could do to improve sound, or strategies for speaker placement that might ameliorate the sub-optimality of the room dimensions.

Of note, I have at present a 56" Samsung DLP TV, and gear for a 5.1 setup.

Thanks!

Pete

Not only is it not ideal, a square is almost the worst dimensions possible. I would strongly encourage you to potentially build a wall and change the dimentions (maybe a side wall to make it 12*15??)

If you don't change the room there are several acoustic treatments you can apply. I haven't gotten to this stage of my project yet (building dedicated HT in basement and am just getting ready to drywall, room is 15'6" * 23'). But will be addressing as one of the last steps.
