i have 1500 to spend on a tv, i am only about 14 feet away from the tv i have the option to purchase a 1 year old sony40xbr800 and stand from a family member for 1000.00 (including stand) any suggestions?

Thought about going FPTV? Panasonic L300U is a nice projector that fits your budget.

If you must stay with the tube, Sony XBR would be my top choice. My ntsc Wega still looks great after 2 years and I love all the settings. Feels like a very solid piece of equipment.

You can also get the Panny PT-53wx53 RPTV for around that price. I ended up getting the PT-56wx53 for $1599 and love it.
