I have B&W matrix 803's front and center and Boston Acoustics rear and $1500. I'm thinking about a midrange receiver such as Denon 2803/3803, HK 525, Pio 53/55 or Yam 1400/2400 to use as a pre/pro and then a used amp in the 600-700 range. On Audiogon they have a bunch of adcoms, parasounds, B&K,, and Anthems in that range. Does anyone have any thoughts as to which combinations would work best? Also have there been a lot of new technologies in amplification in the last few years so that amps built three years ago would be very outdated? It seems to me that most of the new stuff is on the pre/ pro side. Thanks for your thoughts.

I would get either the Outlaw 950/7100 combo, available from Outlaw for $1598, or an NAD 762 which has an MSRP of $1299 (but which can be had for less), which has the sound quality of separates.

For that price range I'd go with the Rotel 1055 recevier and a 2 channel amp for the mains. You can redirect the front amps in the 1055 to power the rear centre(s) if need be. Sonically the 1055 sounds very similar to the 1066 as as you might know Rotel and B&W are designed and tested with each other in mind (the two companies have a working relastionship)

I am using a Rotel RMB-1075 amp utilizing a Sony DA4ES as a pre/pro. If you can find the Sony, it is an excellent set up that I am extremely happy with. Total cost around $1500 to $1700 depending.

    Highly recommended!
