I have lived in various apartments for roughly 6 years. However, I just moved into a new 3bdrm home a few months ago. One of the spare bedrooms is a 12'x12' square. What is the best seating distance from a 36" Wega TV?
    I plan on using
    Sony KV-36HS20
    Sony DVP-NS700P
    Sony STR DE-1075
    Polk 800i’s fr
    Polk 400i center
    Polk FX500i or RT55i surrounds
    SVS 20-39PC sub
Will this room be loud? [IMG]
My living room has NO corners to use. On one side you have the front entry way. The other end leads to the hallway and the dining room. The back opens to the kitchen and a fireplace in the other corner.
    Any thoughts?

my GF and I scored a 3br apt- i thought about putting a HT in the spare, except it's RIGHT above our nighbors bedroom [IMG] shes never complained, but that would be extreme.
IF we had a long ass lease and she wasn't applying to PHD programs, I would suggest building the room out to be sound dampening, but thats not really practical. So, the gear is in the less than ideal living room.

Just how much room do we need to sleep? Make the big bedroom the new HT instead! Ducking now as the spouses open fire. [IMG]

I plugged my dimensions into the spreadsheet someone here sent me. 22x14x8. I have no idea how to interpret the results.
I hope you know what spreadsheet I'm talking about because I don't know what it is supposed to do at this point.
Does the graph at the bottom give me the frequency intersections I need to worry about? Is a low number good or bad?
I figure I have all even numbers so I'll have some things to deal with, but really don't know how to interpret the spreadsheet to understand what they will be.
    Thanks...

Well I have my newly "dedicated" HT in a 11.5 X 11.5 ft. room with 7.5 ft. ceiling and it sounds 1000% better than it did in my previous bigger living room.
    Talk about Theater sound, WOW!!
I run my sub at 78dB and use 2/5 placement [IMG] BOOM BABY!!
I believe with proper calibration and optimal speaker placement a 12x12 room can make a great HT room!!!
No?..... YES I'm proof it can, it really can!!!
True a square room may not be "ideal" but for pure "Theater" entertainment it sure beats an open living room with lot's of openings and windows and doorways.
I have an extremely SWEET, sweet spot!

    John,
Click on my Green Room link and see what I have done with the extra bedroom in our house. It is 10' wide by 12' deep and 8' high. It is perfect.
    Peace Out~ [IMG]

I am still trying to talk my GF into letting me use the spare bedroom for the new HT room. So far she isn't giving in.
However she did give in to a 6K budget for equipment. [IMG]

Ron, that room sure looks a lot bigger than 10x12, so the front seats are pretty close to the TV huh?
Ron, that is a very nice room!!Where do you place your sub?
Now that is proof that a small room can make a great HT room!
Would a 12x12 room sound similar to Ron's 10x12 room, or would the 2 ft. difference in length make a noticeable difference? I'm pretty sure that the only diff would be a slightly different peak in the subwoofer range, like a peak around 50hz?
Ron, would you mind filling us in?

    John-
I have moved recently and my new HT room is 12x12 also, and believe what you are hearing. My SVS 20-39 has a lot of peaks, but I am going to try and combat that with a ART equalizer (check Ebay as they are running under $100 lately). Another good tip is to think about a sectional sofa to make the most out of seating other than going to theater seats.
And yes, it will be loud. U571 and SW:TPM are absolutely insane with the SVS and this size room. 1 word: Pod Race.

You put powerful equipment and worthy speakers in a relatively small room and your gonna just get blown away! I love it! [IMG]
Yes I am calibrated, and just couldn't be happier.
Matt: I'm feeling a little uh, ummm, I, it's just that, uh OK I want to taunt the Happy Fun Ball. [IMG]

    12X12?
    That should work.
Mine is 12X13 and that's almost accoustic suicide. But, It has a closet and the closet doors do seem to help.
It also has a window, am I right when I say that would help too?
Also, there is a little "foyer" area for when you walk in, so that the room is not squareish..
    Hope I helped.
