The only room I have that I can use for a front projector
measures 11 x 12. The distance from the rear wall to the screen would be 12'.
    Is this room large enough?
    What size screen would fit?

A 6ft wide (horizontal measurement) screen would be about as big as I would suggest because with seting against the back wall you are actually about 11ft away from the screen.

    Lee,
Neil's comments are spot on. I'm now building an 'intimate' 11 x 17 theater, so yours won't be much smaller. You will be able to use either a CRT or panel projector. A six-foot wide screen, as Neil suggests, will give you plenty of room for speakers on the sides of the screen.
Good, quiet airflow will be critical, so enlist the the help of a good HVAC contractor.

Another possibility.... what's in the space on the other side of the wall the projector will be next to? Say, if it's a closet or something, you may be able to install a projector there with a window cut into the wall. Of course, you would still need good ventilation for the projector.
Still another possibility... a projector with a short-throw lens. That would allow a larger image from a smaller distance. Not all projectors have this option, but I think some of the data LCD units do.
Anyway, I think you can make your room work. With only 12 feet to work with, you'll be sitting fairly close to the screen, so you don't need a huge screen to make a major impact. I'm looking forward to seeing how your room shapes up!

    Hello,
Just to let you know, I have a 12X13 room with a 6' wide screen. Seating is perfect. I am running two rows, the back with theater seats and the front with leather chairs. I am using an ISCAN with great results.
