Does anyone know of any DVD player capable of 1080i without DVI besides the now unavailable Liteon LVD2001?

True, the LiteOn was the only model sold in the US, but overseas there are other models available. Check out the Momitsu at hivizone.com. Supposedly this player has very similar picture quality to the LiteOn (but worse build quality) and does 1080i using both component and DVI. Of course, it also costs about $300 by the time you throw in shipping. There are also a few other models out or announced, but the Momitsu is the best known.

If you cannot get a LVD-2001 now, then wait until January because that is when the major manufacturers going to announce their 2004 DVD players with DVI support in the electronic shows.
