1080i and 720p

    does any hd programing come in 720p? my cable box has a selection for it but i see colored wavy line across screen when selected

    This might have more to do with the TV not being able to handle 720p ...

    FOX and ABC are 720p ... (among others) but the cable box normally converts it to 1080 based on your set up of the box.

    Right.. Most allow you to set it at one or the other, some also have a pass through or native which means it goes to the display as it was sent from the broadcaster. This is output and somewhat exclusive to the actual source. Your box takes either one automatically and outputs it per the selection.

    If it is set to 1080i, then any and all resolutions it recieves are output at 1080i.
