On another forum I read about the Traitor DVD release being 1.78:11 and not 2.35:11 and am sort of confused as to what this means?

Does the 1.78:1 mean full screen or something?

I have an old SD TV so am not sure really what this means to us non-HD TV people, any help would be great as I may get a BD player to get the film in original format if the 1.78:1 is pan and scan.

The film was shot in Super35, so a 1.78:1 presentation will be more like open matte than pan & scan - additional parts of the frame will be visible and the composition will be altered from the theatrical presentation. Depending on what the director had in mind and how he and the DP "protected" the 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 frames this may or not be horrendously bad.

It means it will be less severely letterboxed than it would be at 2.35:1 on your SD set. On an HD set the 1.78:1 won't be letterboxed at all, while the 2.35:1 would be, although it not as much as on your 1.33:1 screen.

Joe
