A couple of days ago I noticed no signal or very low signal strength on transponder 6. Weather is not an issue and the signal strength for all other transponders is normal (i.e., about 70s to mid-90s for me). I followed the procedure on Hughes' (I have a Hughes receiver) help line (unplug receiver, unhook cables for a few minutes) but that didn't solve the problem. Tonight I called Hughes' technical support line and the service rep told me that Directv launched a new satellite recently (for additional local channels in some places) and that the problem is a result of Directv still trying to fine-tune the channel distribution between the 3 previous satelites and the new satelite. Are others experiencing this problem? Does the rep's explanation make sense? If not, is the problem with the receiver or the dish? Before giving me the above explanation, the rep asked me for my receiver's model (standard question) and when and where I purchased it. Fortunately it's still within their 2 year warranty if I have to return the receiver. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
