Agreed, a manual is always a good thing to have. FA is a boutique manufacturer though and with that comes certain differences compared to what you might find with a mainstream company (both good and not so good).
Congrats! You are buying a sub from a boutique manufacturer renowned for quality so I suspect you will be quite pleased it. Be sure to come back and post your thoughts.
Numbers only really matter if the results are audible. If they're inaudible than don't get too hung up on specs because in the end the only thing that matters is what you can actually hear, not what a microphone can pick up. For a subwoofer 0.5% THD is not something you could hear so it won't...
At a GTG one time I was in a similar sized room with 8 18's and the owner thought it was about right so it depends upon what you're looking to achieve. My room is 13x17 and I have an 18" sub and for me it's not overkill but others may feel differently.
"incredible" would be one way of describing such a feat. Bovine defecation is what I would choose however. ;)
The cone area for a pair of 9" drivers is roughly 14", so comparisons to lower end 15" subs would be most relevant. I'd love to see a 15" sealed subwoofer in a small cabinet come...
Assuming your ceilings are the typical 8 ft, a 20x40 room is 6,400 ft^3. That is an extremely large space for a subwoofer to fill, something it will try to do regardless of the size of the viewing area or how you have it sectioned off. Even the V3611 won't be able to do it, unless you have...
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. Some of those are easier to do than others, and in the case of the SB16 the words just flowed. It was fun.
You're right about its performance relative to some of the better known 18" units. My personal sub is a JTR S1, so naturally one Saturday I did a...
Every one of us who has actually evaluated one of the new 16 series subs has come away as impressed as you. About the only people who haven't are those who speculate, make assessments without first-hand experience. There have been some amp issues springing up, but to SVS's credit they're taking...
I hope you're able to make that happen, because my guess is you'll be mighty impressed. I had a Cap1400 while doing the review of the 118HT, so I know first hand what it can do. AAMOF, my personal reference sub is an S1.
The app works quite well actually. Not sure it warrants an entire review though; it's fun to play around with, but once you get the PB16 dialed in you might not use it much any more. My guess is you're gonna like that sub.
During the days of class A/B amps this could potentially be a problem as the cooling fins went from a vertical alignment to a horizontal one, and frequently that cut down on total radiating area as it relates to convection and dissipation. But as Craig noted that's not longer an issue today...
