I have an awful copy of THE CRIMSON KIMONO so I'd love to get a quality release. That said, the film is a pure detective story versus a film noir.

Richard: I re-watched The Asphalt Jungle. Thanks for writing so passionately about it. I agree, the camera work is terrific as were the actor's performances. I like the little intangibles that Huston puts in. Was it fate that two beat cops happen by the diner when the Doc and the cab...

Finally got around to watching HIS KIND OF WOMAN. To say that it's film noir is a major stretch other than the first 15 minutes of a 120 minute film. Just a suspense film with a happy ending and strong comedic moments when it wasn't "borrowing" from Casablanca. Bad/dark lighting by...

Richard, Well, first of all, if we cast a hard eye on all films with script changes during or post production that would be the majority of films. You seem to be inferring that the writers struggled. Most writers stuggle, it really is the result that matters. The dialogue of Casablanca is...

I think we're all in agreement that Ilsa is not classic femme fatale a la Sherry Peatty in The Killing or Stanwyck's character in Double Indemnity. I also think we can agree that the gray areas can be fun too.

I would agree that Casablanca has strong noir elements. To me the strongest is the element of fate, Rick is doomed no matter what he does. Also noir has elements of that of a bad dream that you don't wake up from and having Ilsa come into your life twice and leaving twice certainly fits...

I'm glad the film is getting a nice release but I really don't see it as noir any more than THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS is a noir.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Irina: Thumbs up. Quite the classy move. Greg: Well deserved. You answered a couple of tough ones. I would not have faired as well. Herb: Thanks for putting up with us. Craig: Funny you should mention that. I was just looking at the Noir City...

The Fellini Film ... Clue 1 If you had a nice blueberry pie (it's summer) and you cut the pie right down the middle and you took only one of the two portions and served it to your family for dessert that night and they ate the entire portion, you could say that your family ... Note: I...

If my math is correct we have Greg and Irina with two points a piece. That means that it all boils down to question 11. As question 11 is worth three points, it could even be a new contestant waltzing in and winning the second copy. Looks like it is time to call in some favors and PM some...
