Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

For me I don't have an issue with the existence of the Special Editions (although personally I abhor them and will never watch them again), it's that the original theatrical presentations do not exist for consumers in a way that is compatible with modern technology. It's about the importance of...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Disney will but Lucasfilm will not. Don't lose sight of the fact that Disney is merely a parent company and Lucasfilm still handles the day-to-day operations which is almost entirely focused on Star Wars properties.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith shot in 1080p? Thus, upconverting them will never make them look better. The Phantom Menace was shot on 35mm so it could withstand a 4k or 8k mastering, but I don't think the second two prequels will ever look any...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Same here. I was eight in May of 1977 and all I heard at school was Chewbacca this and Darth Vader that. Then I saw The Making of Star Wars on network television hosted by C-3PO and R2-D2 (and narrated by William Conrad) and I knew I had to see whatever it was that this was. I begged to see it...

That fan says as much himself: While I intellectually understand that these versions are not true restorations of the original theatrical releases, I watched all three of them yesterday and emotionally they were magnificent.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

This is the one that really kills it for me too. There's so much drama with the music and the conflict for Vader when he is looking between Luke and the Emperor. I've always found it so well done that even though Vader's mask cannot emote we know what's going on with the character when he is...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

If it doesn't change anything then why make the change? Did anyone here defending Lucas also champion Spielberg's alteration in E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial to change the guns to walkies-talkies? Thankfully that version didn't stick and was abandoned for the blu-ray release.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

To everyone who thinks all the CGI tinkering with Star Wars is justified, I have a few questions. Should they go back and fix the shark in Jaws to look more realistic as well as adding it to sequences earlier in the film as originally intended but couldn't do at the time because the animatronic...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

As far as defending the alterations for the Special Editions, what would be the reaction if Lucasfilm cropped the film to 1.85 for HDTVs and then made it impossible to purchase the 2.35 OAR versions?

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I will admit that I was one of the fans from all the way back to my childhood in 1977 that was interested and curious to see what was done to the films with the Special Editions. It was also the first chance to see the Star Wars trilogy in a theater since the early 80s. But that's just it—they...
