The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

You might call Ceton. There are some they had issues that got too hot.. some users ended up putting a small fan or open grate by them, this was changed in later revisions.

Ah. Sam, here's a suggestion I've had others run into.. what system are you using the USB tuner on? Make sure it's the only USB device on a USB HA. Remember, USB bandwidth is shared, and the Ceton will milk every damn drop of it ;)

Because all cable cards use HDCP, you'd have to use an external HDMI capture device to do it. If you're getting a lot of blocking, something is wrong. Which model are you using Sam?

Go through all the updates on the extenders. 1st Gen firmware on the echo is a real mixed bag, but as time went on, the thing became pretty sturdy

Sam, I just deployed the CETON USB somewhere; it is surprisingly effective and the driver base is pretty good. I'm impressed so far.

Agreed. Make sure you have a multi-band cable card, and that you have contacted your cable provider and they show it as active. You also need to make sure that your digital tuners are connected via USB, recognized and functioning correctly.

I'm just not sure I quite get this. Ok, if you turn on the TV function of media center, there is no "rewind" outside of where you start; because it assumes no tuners are in use (unless they are recording, etc.) So, if that's the question, that's true. I guess I've never thought of...

The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

OK. Now I'm not so sure what you're thinking of. Ok, but let me give an example: I right now am watching live "The Rose Bowl" My wife is in the other room watching something else (I think probably some crap like "Say Yes to the Dress") anyway, both live, neither being recorded. I...

The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

OK. Let's say I'm recording multiple shows at once. In fact, I'll give a straight on example: I've got Bones, Grey's Anatomy and 30 Rock recording at the same time. In my main room, I have the HTPC. In our bedroom my wife has an XBOX, my kids have an XBOX as Extenders. In the...

The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

Dave, here's my real advice: I've run Media Center in various formats for 5+ years. WMC 7 is about as close to "perfect" as it gets. But I will tell you this before you get going: Don't just "sling something together". Good Media Centers are often ones that are used dedicated for...

Do you mean like Press Releases for: http://www.silicondust.com/ Or Ceton: http://www.cetoncorp.com/ Or whole PCs? Actually, I just started working with someone (who is also associated with the forum) on some next-gen HTPCs that should hit most major box stores in...

The best are always done to your own personal specs.. :) So it depends on what your goal is! There are a bunch coming onto the market based around cablecard, though, so you might just wait a short bit.

It will accept 3D feeds, which right now are rare.. but it will do them. You will need an HDMI1.4 card to do it.

The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

Yeah, I think I haven't run into anyone who had a cable company know how to deal with ceton. I also just told mine I had a TiVo. They brought out the card, I did the setup.Just a note: Because mine screwed it up, I had to call into the service desk and have them send the activation signal to...

The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

I think that's one of the best things about them, that the tuners can be shared across a network with other MCE devices. Ceton last week rolled out their new Network Sharing and Tag apps, which are pretty useful, and the way they work is pretty creative.. so if you've got multiple Cetons, you...

Yep, price has plummetted! I setup the second media center in the wife's bedroom, to look a bit like this: So, watch 9 shows, record a tenth? :) Actually, the max I figure you could do is record 7, watch an 8th, due to split tuners.. oh well. But, yes, it does make...

For right now, yes, you lose access to on-demand services. This is true across the board; however, there are scheduled offerings by Microsoft which should enable those functions over the next summer (Post SP1). I will admit, I generally find nothing in ondemand if I have a big enough storage...

More importantly, if you are interested enough in both programs, and you are already recording them, you have "4" live buffers going at anytime, you can switch to any of the shows you are actually recording and they are fully buffered, all the way. So, the idea of dual buffer of programs I'm...

Robert- I think you're right. I also agree with the point on Mac. For many, a well handled Win7MC almost never sees the desktop; my parents, who are in their 70s, NEVER drop to the desktop, have no keyboard anywhere near it, and it has worked flawlessly for them for over a year. I think...

I use wired lan throughout our house, and supporting a bunch via WiFi would be trickier... but not impossible. I know several who use HPN (Powerline networking) with very good success.

The CETON Digital Cable Quad Tuner PC Card and why you should seriously consider it

Dave: as far as the buffer goes, it keeps a buffer of whatever you are watching, and if you start recording, it grabs it from when you started watching. That happened in a windows update a long time ago. It's always had a buffer, it's just now also part of the recording. XBOXes as...

Yes, Dave, it autobuffers. Robert, you've missed my threads in the HTPC area where I have mentioned this repeatedly. I've just added my second Ceton card (so 8 tuners) and I am absolutely ecstatic with this solution. Video quality is far superior to what I have received from any cable box...
