A nice upgrade? I don't think you can compare this to the DVD. Beyond the added resolution, the DVD was electronic looking, overly clean, with no or little depth of field and shimmered continually throughout the "Begin The Beguine" number. This, on the other hand, has perfect contrast, amazing...
I agree but the scenes of the two of them dancing make up for a bushel-full of plot inconsistencies. I can't wait to finally see those mirrored surfaces in HD, without all that aliasing and digital pot luck obscuring what should be an exquisite black & white image. It looked great in a theatre...
So do I. It's inappropriately maligned, in my opinion, because of extra-cinematic aspects.
I think Audrey Hepburn is marvelous in it, and it's very well directed.
