Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

At minimum, that $6000 cost would have to cover the working hours of the folks who do the disc authoring, and the cost to manufacture/package/ship the actual discs to Warner's warehouse(s). I suppose one can look up Technicolor's bulk rate for manufacturing tens of thousands of dvd and bluray...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

If I were to ever watch Tenet, it will likely be when it shows up on a basic cable channel in a year or two, or if the bluray is a $5 impulse buy at wallyworld. Whichever comes first.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

To make a long story short, the world of movies will become a complete random wasteland similar to basic cable channels merged with youtube. (ie. No quality control whatsoever to stick out from the crowd).

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

AT&T's fiscal year ends on December 31, 2020. The bean counters at Warner and AT&T, are likely currently thinking about what they can do as a write off for tax purposes at the end of the year. I'm guessing the Tenet dvd/bluray/4Kbluray release date, will be dictated by whether they want to...

This is very interesting. It appears the new owners of Goodrich Quality has dumped each individual theater into its own individual LLC (limited liabiliity company) shell. https://michigan-company.com/search?q=GOODRICH+THEATER The only obvious reason I can think of offhand for doing such an...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

This sounds like typical negotiations in a chapter11 bankruptcy reorganization. There's no immediate penalty for breaking any previously signed legal agreements. In some scenarios, I wouldn't be surprised if chapter11 is used to get out of any and all previous rental/leasing agreements.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

In the special case of the year 2020, the two age categories of 25-31 and 32-39 might possibly reflect something else significant. The case of ages 25-31 in 2020, were likely folks who grew up with social media either at its dawn (ie. myspace, twitter, etc ...) or already ubiquitous (ie...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Looking more closely at this graph, the 25-39 bracket might be slightly misleading. It covers a 15 years age span demographic. In contrast, the 40-49 bracket covers a 10 years age span category, while the 18-24 bracket only covers a 7 year age span. If I had to guess, these age bracket...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

I strongly suspect the primary reason for emphasizing film programming to teenagers, is the same reasons advertisers aim for that same demographic (whether officially or unofficially). The intention is to create longer term "steady" customers for the future, for both the film experience and...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

I would answer the same, in spite of not attending the movie theater in over a decade. Though I have to wonder if this view is shared by younger folks who are not hardcore into superhero movies. Anecdotally, I have notice my younger relatives and their friends have very little to no interest...

(Without getting heavily into politics). In the jurisdictions of relevance, I would have guessed the C-level suite executives all along might have assumed that no bail out was happening due to the current zeitgeist.

In a bankruptcy auction, most likely the "fire sale" will be the property leases and possible equipment (if it was owned outright by the chain). Also any actual real estate property which was owned outright by a chain.

Unfortunately, that is the "consolation prize" in that genre, at the huge expense of simultaneous ego deflation.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

This is completely understandable. - Nobody wants to be the person who "blinks first". - Nobody wants to be in a position of weakness when it comes to bargaining brinkmanship. - C-level executives are almost always folks with huge overinflated egos. They don't want to be the "chump".

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

The question is how much of a hit is AMC willing to take on a 17-day window, which the other chains are not willing to take. Another issue is the C-level suite executives might believe that once that 90-day window is gone, it will be gone forever. Basically no more leverage in future...

Even if it is a complete waste of time, this letter may very well end up being a CYA (cover your ass) measure for the signatories. So in the event if (or when) the shit hits the fan via mass bankruptcies, they can argue "they tried" even at a minimal level.

Similar to what happened when the large Sears Roebuck department stores closed down in the towns I lived in. Basically if there wasn't another huge outlet which attracted a lot of foot traffic in the same area, the entire commercial area became inactive and eventually became a run down eyesore.

From a cynical perspective, I wouldn't be surprised if the only viable theater films left after the pandemic, is stuff like superhero films and other tentpoles (ie. star wars, james bond, etc ...). The stuff which was featured in average films more than a decade or two ago, seem to have shifted...
