I planned to see Lion King this weekend, but ended up spending time with family instead as my mother-in-law unexpectedly passed away. As such, I really don't have an opinion on the film yet. It is making quite a bit of money though, so I'm sure Disney is pleased with their investment.
I would have to say I agree. My opinion of this film has changed dramatically in the last week or so. What I thought would be a marvel of storytelling seems to be a complete rehash of the original. I'll still see it as well, but likely wait a few days so I don't have to fight the crowds.

Perhaps. Yes, I realize that this version appears to be lifted directly from the source material----as it should be, but I'm sure there will be enough differences between it and the original 1994 animated release that it can be classified as a 'masterpiece' on its own. I get where you are coming...
