Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Director Peyton Reed on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MrPeytonReed/status/911024440766582784?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet Well, I would like to think that Fox would try to strike a deal with Disney in desperation to squeeze some money out of it before they lose it...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I think it's time to face up to a very sad reality: if Disney were planning on releasing the originals, we'd have gotten an announcement by this point. They clearly have no interest. And IF they have any plans on ever doing it, and that's a big if, then the earliest we'll be seeing it is 2020...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I know, and, I might add, that the fan edits I want are almost universally for films I already own, in some cases several copies. I'm just worried I'll be that one unlucky poor bastard who'll wind up with Jack Bauer at my door telling me orange really IS the new black and I won't get Nina Rausch...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

There are lots of fan edits, bootleg albums, etc that I really, really want, but I live in mortal fear of legal repercussions. It's stupid given that God-knows how many people do it with impunity, but I still feel that nagging fear. God, I want to though.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I've pretty much given up hope of this being anything but a pipe dream at this point. If I weren't scared to death of getting arrested, I'd just buckle down and get the Harmy versions.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I've been burned so many times since 1997 that I've just learned not get my hopes up anymore.

Not only was he the artistic force, he was the legal owner. Whatever decisions he made he had the legal rights to make, my opinions on them not withstanding.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I never read that interview. Didn't he back up the negatives to make the Special Editions and withdraw and destroy most prints of the originals? I guess there might be a few options. They could scan the 1997 SE negatives and then try to reconstruct the original FX scenes and audio mix. I guess...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

There have been so many rumors flying since the Disney acquisition that I admit that I shrug at almost any news that isn't concrete at this point. I've just given up hoping for it, especially given the phantom clause a few such as I have imagined in Lucas' contract when he sold it stipulating...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Given how long it's been since the Disney acquisition, I've tempered my expectations of getting any news about this.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I still think it not being mentioned at all is a very, very, very bad sign. I'm surprised no one brought it up at all. It doesn't inspire my confidence. If Disney are planning on getting around to it, which it doesn't sound like they are, will Blu-ray still be around at that point? I'm at the...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I think it's supposed to look like a broadsword, which is a cool design, but decidedly impractical, since it'd probably chop your hand own off :p.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

The new Episode VII trailer simply makes me pine for these more than ever :(.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I'd like nothing better, but I've been so burned as an SW OOT fan over the past 15+ year that I simply don't want to hope anymore for fear of being disappointed. And if it does happen, there are still a plethora of questions about how it'd be done to be concerned about ;).

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I kind of think that somewhere between the original trilogy and the prequels, Lucas took a genuine interest in adding some sort of political overtone to things and tried to deal with that with the prequels. The problem is that he was still trying to do it with the fantasy serial format, and the...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Assuming you can find an IP of the theatrical cuts after Lucas' quest to destroy prints and ensure that even the library of congress doesn't have them.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

This sounds way too good to be true. What's the reliability of this source? Even if it is, there's a laundry list of other questions: what's the condition of the elements, what'll the resolution of the master be, what about the color timing, what sound mix will they use, and others. Like I said...

Blank me, do you have a nice home system! Shame I never got into LD.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

This is blunt, but sadly probably all too true. Yes, Lucas was the obstacle in that he didn't want them to, but he hacked up the negatives and made a mess so badly that even if it is possible, it'd probably consume far more money than would be profitable for Disney. I'd love to believe my fellow...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

While minimal effort would be better than the non-anamorphic insult, it still would indicate that arguably the most important piece of film history is simply being regulated to a second thought. I think it's the best we'd get though, I think idea that the OOT would get a proper restoration (much...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

No announcement at Comic-Con about this, X-Files, True Lies, or The Abyss. Basically nothing I was hoping for. I'd bet that whomever Disney sent probably don't know themselves, on the off chance that they are planning on doing this, they probably want to hold off until there's concrete...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I depends on what you're asking. If it's a BS excuse like the non-anamorphic crap we go last time, then no. If there's a giant boxed set and the OOT is only available in it? If they are 100% remasters and no one has messed up the color-timing, the FX, or anything else, and they are properly...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

And now he's been Lucas-ized too, turned orange and had his mono taken away :(. Didn't Lucas go on a quest to destroy as many of the pre-SE prints as he possibly could and restrict that version ever being shown? Never have, never will. I will watch Star Wars again when the OOT comes out in HD...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Rumors about this have swirled like crazy since the Disney buyout. As I want this more than pretty much anything in the entire world and as an OOT fan, I've been burned way too many times, this sounds way too good to be true, and I'm skeptical.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I'd have to think hard about something I want more in the world than 4K remasters of the OOT, but as an ex-Star Wars fan, I've been burned so many times that I'm wary to believe any rumors involving good news.
