Because they didn't notice it when they shot it and there was no video assist. They "might" have noticed it in dailies the next day, but I can assure you no one gave a flying Wallenda about it.
I watched it last night - wonderful to see and hear it - Universal should be lauded for doing a nice job with it. I especially enjoyed Russell Metty's photography and his use of lots of gels, creating all kinds of deep colors on walls, hair, and everywhere else. It's kind of a lost art now...
The question is, why doesn't it show up when you type in, I don't know, Flower Drum Song or Flower Drum Song Blu-ray or Flower Drum Song Kino? Hence, bafflement. I ordered earlier directly through Kino although I'd have preferred Amazon.
I'm baffled by the fact that this Blu-ray, which officially comes out Tuesday, isn't on Amazon at all. Unless you have to search it under Gone With the Wind or Titles Kino had No Interest In But Have Done Anyway. Anyone find it?
Yes, his orchestrations are brilliant for Flower Drum Song and, I hate to say it, much preferable to Robert Russell Bennett's B'way orchestrations, which I just don't care for, especially Love, Look Away, my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein song - Newman's arrangement is glorious.
