Superfluous? Sure. But an extra 3 minutes and 20 seconds of some of the best dino CGI ever created to date makes it work for me. And really, when you're talking about a 2-hour and 27-minute movie anyway, is an extra 14 minutes really that much of a bother? I don't think so. ;)
