My wife and I watched it the other night and I also came away not caring for it all that much. The de-aging effects and other CGI tomfoolery weren't all that great in some instances, the film was FAR too long, and Ancient Indy only partially worked for me. The best part of the movie were the...
Good one! :)
For me, yeah, it was that bad. Swinging with the monkeys, the army ants, the totally unbelievable chase along the cliffs, etc., etc. Not only was much of that stuff completely implausible, the effects were really poorly done, even for the tech at the time, IMO.
Anyway, I didn't...
I'll eventually watch it when it hits streaming and/or the 4K disc release, but I'm not going to rush to the theater and get in line. The industry's constant milking of "franchises" and "properties" until there's absolutely no moisture left in them really rubs me the wrong way. IMO Harrison...
Perhaps it was the experience with Indy when she was so young that pushed her into the life she was leading in Nepal. It's not a huge stretch at all to see that as a possibility.
Good points Travis. If they're going to make him look younger than he really is they're going to have to be very careful about trying to get him to ACT younger than he really is.
Harrison Ford is pushing EIGHTY. They can de-age his face all they want, but there's no way they're going to be able to hide the way his elderly body moves. They can only do so much with doubles. If they go down this road they might as well just make him entirely CGI, and what's the point?
I'm just some guy expressing my own opinion about another Indy film, Josh. I really don't see the need for it. Hyperbole? Nope. I simply happen to think that KOTCS pretty much WAS a dumpster fire. It might have been a "critical" success, but a lot of people didn't really care for it all that...
Yes Jake, obviously. That doesn't answer the real question though. I'll just quote another Harrison Ford character here - "I've got a bad feeling about this."
I tend to agree, Tommy. The film stands on its own two feet as far as I'm concerned, and I've always interpreted Marion's "I was a child" comment as meaning she was young, naive, and not emotionally prepared to be "dumped" by Indy.
I had no problem with the period it was set in or the age-appropriateness, I just didn't care for the story, the execution, or some of the characterizations. Many of the CGI effects were poorly done. I rank Crystal Skull at the very bottom of the four films.
You're right, we'll just have to...
Something that Hollywood is full of, unfortunately. Look at KotCS. Most definitely NOT a compelling story IMO. However, your point about Mangold is a good one. Logan was pretty damned good.
