I liked the five-parter too, but the quality plunged after the sixth episode with Elizabeth Montgomery. I think that once they introduced Hannah (Joan Staley), the quality of the episodes then improved steadily, until by the final episode they had pretty much restored the old Stu. That episode...

Earlier, I mentioned that I had just gotten one of the German-language 77SS sets. I haven't had much time to check it out since then, because we've been in the process of moving, and I haven't had a DVD player connected to a TV for all this time. But I did at last check the set out on a...

I'm still working on getting those German 77SS DVDs read. Both my DVD drives on my PCs chose this time to go on strike. Either that, or they're both kaput. Stay tuned.

Hello, everybody. Just checking in. I actually took the step of buying one of those German 77SS DVD sets, just to see what the state of the prints is. I won't be able to watch them until I get my computer setup back to full function. Anyway, doing that made me think of you all, and I thought it...

This was late enough, and 77 was early enough, for me to qualify to stay up and watch the whole thing. And I can say with authority that our family TV was on ABC for all of this. But oddly, the only 77SS ep I recall from before MeTV is The Kookie Caper, which must have been one of the classic...

Hello, all. Just thought I'd check in and say hello. Sorry I haven't been around, but we've been going through a lot of changes lately. My wife finally retired from the LA County DA's Office, and —well, what is it that they say about the Mob, that you aren't allowed to retire from it? It seems...

Russ, From what I have been picking up, until this month MeTV+ has been in preliminary trials. Now they seem to be getting serious. Here in LA they've moved from a side channel of MeTV to their own main channel, and their outlets are starting to increase in number. I am trying to keep track of...

77 Sunset Strip / Hawaiian Eye, etc.

Keep trying! Broadcast TV is really fussy nowadays. When MeTV moved from KDOC to where it is now, it took a lot of time for them to get their technical ducks in a row. I actually had to look up their e-mail and tell them no one was getting their channel in LA because they weren't sending the...

77 Sunset Strip / Hawaiian Eye, etc.

77 IS BACK!!! 6 PM (Pacific time, at least) as the lead-in to Hawaiian Eye on MeTV+. And it is looking like they are starting a rollout of the channel. Here in LA is has moved from 54.3 to 6.1, which means we get it now in 720p.

Yes, that's near the southern terminus of Orange Grove Blvd., which passes quite near our house. Its sign now says South Pasadena Historical Museum, and it's temporarily closed (and has been for some time). I'm interested in visiting it when it opens again. There's a lot of interesting history...

Re MeTV+, the word on Facebook is that MeTV+ is still in test markets being tweaked. This from someone who claims to have the ear of "the Boss." Needless to say, I put in a word for the WB detective shows. . .

77 Sunset Strip / Hawaiian Eye, etc.

Paul, The apparent issue preventing streaming or disc releases of the WB shows is music rights. The broadcast rights are baked in, but not other venues. WB used to have a huge music publishing arm which held the rights to all those songs, but they sold it early in the millenium. We have...

Russ, Great to hear from you! MeTV+ is a sister station to MeTV, kind of the same idea but with mostly different programs. Unfortunately, it's not widely available yet. Here is the most comprehensive list I can find of its availability. [EDIT: Looking harder at that above list, I can see right...

Thanks, Marv. Yes, I'm still around. It's been kind of a bumpy re-entry as various regions of my brain that have been closed for repairs check back in. I am advised that that will keep happening for another six months or so. I'm about ready to start writing again. The next project is getting my...

Hey, where's Russ? He should be totally jazzed by the presence of Hawaiian Eye on the airwaves.

Great thought, Tom! That didn't occur to me.

77 Sunset Strip / Hawaiian Eye, etc.

Yes, there are a number of interesting things on MeTV+ right now. I am especially encouraged that Hawaiian Eye is on in prime time, not at 4 AM. Plus, if someone at Weigel Broadcasting even thought to consider airing HE, hopefully they may consider SurfSide 6 too. Regarding music clearance, as...

77 Sunset Strip / Hawaiian Eye, etc.

Good news! At long last, Hawaiian Eye is back on the air! It's on MeTV+, MeTV's sister station, weeknights at 7 PM Pacific/10 PM Eastern. They have also added Sugarfoot, Bronco and Lawman on Sundays. Here's hoping that breathes new vim and vigor into our beloved thread!

James, I love that idea! Route 66 was a show that needed some fun being made of it, because as I recall they made no real effort to keep the action along the eponymous highway.

Dear Martin, I don't know whether Cagney's role in Roger Smith's career has been mentioned here, but I did know about it, which likely means that it has been mentioned here somewhere.

Great review of Nine to Five, Randall. My favorite aspect of that episode is Lenny Weinrib's performance, and of course the presence of Jay Adler; I get the idea that Adler's character was intended to be, at least symbolically, the anchor of the show, or at least the common factor.

Well, unless someone has hard, established facts, I still think it's Ed Reimers.

Here's an example of Ed Reimers. Pardon the horrible digital audio distortion.

I believe Ed Reimers is the voice heard over the series opening. You may remember him as the one who did the ancient "You're in good hands with Allstate" ads.
