Jake: Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. Given how important the original movie has been to you for so many years, it's understandable that you didn't connect emotionally with the new one.
My favorite movie adaptation of a Jane Austen novel is the 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility...
Saw it again today in IMAX 3D and liked it even better the second time around. The 3D is very good imho, and I think that's the way to go if you can find it in that format. They were only showing it once in IMAX 3D as far as I could tell as my local AMC (not once a day, just once period)...
Revised and/or new lyrics for opening song....
"Oh imagine a land, it's a faraway place
Where the caravan camels roam
Where you wander among every culture and tongue
It's chaotic, but hey, it's home
When the wind's from the east
And the sun's from the west
And the sand in the glass is right...
I liked it a lot! My rating: "A"
My rating of the original: "A+"
The theater was only half full, but the audience was clearly enjoying it. Jasmine was a standout, with a more powerful role and her own new song.
That's 3 for 3 for me for the recent Disney remakes, since I really liked Mary...
My guess is that you will be wrong. Aladdin in one of the crown jewels for Disney, and they clearly have invested not just fortune of money into this, but a fortune of talent as well. I think it's going to be a good movie, although imho there's no way it will be as good as the animated version...
Aladdin will almost certainly have much bigger box office than Dumbo and Mary Poppins, but still I think it's likely to be closer to those movies than to Endgame. But I'm looking forward to it. I'll probably by an IMAX 3 D seat for it in a couple of weeks.
