Finished this 8-episode series on Paramount+ based on a historical figure with an impressive career. Serious and classic epic Western TV. Strong performances throughout, including by star David Oyelowo, as well as Dennis Quaid, Lauren Banks, Donald Sutherland, and many others. My rating: A-...
I hope those here will forgive me for recommending a "Western in space" movie that's actually is a 3-part episode of a TV show. I'm recommending it because I just rewatched it, and was reminded of how much it was influenced by the John Ford movie The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and...
Found a review of The Gunfighter on imdb that says—correctly—that there are lots of serious Westerns before The Gunfighter. Most of the Westerns on this list I've seen, but some I haven't—or it was so long ago I'm forgetting whether or not I've seen them. I know I haven't seen Lust for Gold, for...
My new blu-ray of the Gunfighter was only my second time watching my favorite Western for the year 1950, but it confirmed that this movie is top notch in every way. This is one of those Westerns that gets into the costs for the violence of the old West, as well as looking at celebrity. At 85...
It turns out The Furies is included with my subscription to Paramount+, and so maybe I'll watch it soon. A review I read of the new blu-ray of The Furies said that picture quality is only so-so.
I just bought the new blu-ray of The Gunfighter, which seems to have good reviews.
Wikipedia has a good listing of Westerns from 1950-1954, when there was an avalanche of movies in the genre.

Looking over this list here are my top Westerns for just the year 1950, but there are still many Westerns I...
Here's a nice reaction video of a first time watcher of High Noon. Her enthusiasm for the film reminds me why it's my top Western of 1952, and really one of my top Westerns of all time.
I agree that Citizen Kane is overrated and somewhat boring. It does, however, have some insights into the "Kane type" of person in American history, and explores the impacts they can have—people like William Randolph Hearst, Steve Jobs, Trump, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, etc. I wrote a very short...

Mann's Last of the Mohicans is a great movie. You are in for a treat! Love that film. And what a score by Trevor Jones.
It's my favorite Mann film too. I've watched it at least a dozen times, and maybe more, starting with a great experience in the theater in 1992.
This is one of those cases...
I don't like it either. And so you're not alone!
I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere on this thread, but the 1954 Western Garden of Evil is one I've watched probably half a dozen times since it came out on blu-ray. The score by Bernard Herrmann is fantastic imho. And the cast is great...
