That's how my wife makes pot roast, pork roast, etc.
Big 7 quart cast-iron dutch oven (weighs a ton). Sears meat on all sides at high heat for a couple of minutes, then packs the dutch over with roast, potatoes, carrots, and onions, along with some stock and red wine. Let's it cook covered at...
I keep my bucket in the garage overnight.....ice in bottom of bucket, big garbage bag lining the bucket, fill with turkey, brine and more ice. Everything stays ice cold. Next morning, take out turkey and start cooking. Dump brine in woods behind our house. Been doing it this way for 10 years...
I used to hate brussels sprouts but it was apparently because of the way my mom cooked them when I was growing up. Now, I love them especially roasted or grilled with some bacon and/or olive oil. Love them charred with little crispiness!
Easter dinner today after church:
Grilled ham steaks on the Weber, with apricot/brown sugar glaze
Potato Salad
Fruit Salad w fresh whipped cream
Glazed carrots in the cast iron
Grilled pineapple
Homemade individual cheesecakes with "birds nest" topper (toasted coconut and malted milk eggs, my...
Due to work and other considerations, we had our St Patty's Day dinner Sunday at my in-laws. They did corned beef with cabbage and carrot, slow-roasted all day. Smelled and tasted delicious. My wife supplied this dessert:

We will be feeding 15 people. The $400 was trip THREE, between 2 grocery stores and Costco. Total cost of Thanksgiving was probably $700. After Thanksgiving, my wife will do her holiday cookie, etc baking which will be another hundred bucks or so.Normally, we have 6 in our family (wife and I...
Accompanied my wife to the store today as it was rainy and nasty and I knew she had a ton to get for Thanksgiving and holiday baking. $400, 2 full grocery carts, and an inch of rain later.....I need a drink!
We're heading to TN in December for our annual anniversary "no kids, clothing optional, alcohol mandatory" 4 day weekend. My wife just found out there's a Lodge Factory Store about a mile from our cabin, and is very happy!
Just ordered this for my wife for Christmas... 7 quart Lodge dutch oven for $49 with free shipping.http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41MS5YW2EPL._SX466_.jpg
My wife does prep in the morning. We get up at 5:30 to get ourselves and kids ready for workschool. While we're having coffee, she'll get pot roast or whatever in the crock pot. Turns it on as we leave house about 715, ready when we get home at 6. Been doing that for years with never a problem...
In preparation for Thanksgiving, my wife just ordered one of these:

Our oven will be cooking turkey, dressing, sweet potato souffle, yeast rolls, etc...
Thanksgiving is definitely easier when you're single. We'll have about 15-18 people on our home on Thanksgiving Day. My wife already has the menu prepped:
Turkey (about a 22 lb bird for this crew)
Honey-Glazed Ham (about 12 lbs)
Sausage-Cornbread Dressing (stuffing for those not in the South)...
Father-in-laws 75th BD this weekend. He requested homemade lasagna for his b-day meal, so my wife will be cooking up a huge batch (enough to serve about 15). For the sauce, she's using a recipe she got from "The Pioneer Woman" on Food Network. We use it for spaghetti, lasagna, etc (she makes a...
We have one too (in red) that gets a heavy workout. With 4 kids, our careers, sports, orchestra, etc, we probably use it 2-3 times a week so dinner is ready whenever we get home. Pot roast, pork tenderloin, mac n cheese, and even meatloaf (my wife found a great recipe for crock-pot meatloaf)...
I thought this too....but found I was wrong. As Sam stated, the more its used, the better cast iron works. We fry, roast, saute, etc in ours, use it daily and clean up is just as I described....rinse, dry, oil. We are definitely converts. Now, we do use our All Clad hard anodized too...its 12...
Big fan of the Lodge pre-seasoned series. Wifey loves her 10-inch fry pan, uses it almost daily. Works great in the oven (roasted veggies, etc). Clean up is, as you stated, simple. Rinses with boiling water, dry, wipe down with olive oil. Thing is about 2 years old, looks like it just came out...
My wife wants one for Christmas.....and says this is the one:http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-L10DOL3-Pre-Seasoned-Handles-7-Quart/dp/B000SOM5XS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414933107&sr=8-1&keywords=lodge+7+quart+dutch+oven
One note on this recipe.......DO NOT use the amount of Sriricha chili sauce recommended in the recipe. My wife actually cut it in half and it was still too hot for most of the family (didn't bother me as I love hot and spicy food; this one definitely cleared out my sinuses!). I would actually...
