I doubt that will happen. It's easier and cheaper for Universal to send out replacement discs for those that ask for them than it is for them to pull the existing stock and replace it with new discs, or even to add corrected discs to what's already out there. And I haven't received my...
Most likely. I don't think it's worth their while to recall the sets. There are probably only a handful of people who know or care about the Psycho soundtrack issue, so it's easier and cheaper for Universal to just replace the discs on a case-by-case basis.
It's hard to say, but there's a good chance they won't bother replacing the stock that's out there. It may be cheaper and easier for them to send replacement discs to those who ask for them, as most people who purchase disc won't know or care about the audio issue.
Not that I think it should be done, but if you're going to remake a Hitchcock film, The Birds makes the most sense, as it can take advantage of the improvements in special effects technology over the years. It certainly couldn't be any worse than a virtual shot for shot remake of Psycho.
If you have another blu-ray player, put in a disc that's from the same master as the 4K. Then find the Optimum HDR adjustment setting on the Panasonic 4K player and boost it until the picture matches the blu-ray. I had to set mine to +8.
To each his own. I think Rear Window and Psycho are better films than Vertigo. Within a span of thirty years, I think Vertigo went from being seriously underrated to seriously overrated.
It's not the settings on the TV, it's the settings on the player. My player has a slider that allows you to adjust the way it converts HDR to SDR, so I loaded a 4K disc and blu-ray from the same master and adjusted the output until they matched.
I had to play with the HDR-SDR conversion settings on my Panasonic to get it to look right. The default setting resulted in an overly dark image that looked worse than blu-ray.
I think it was the other way around - the UK Vertigo was missing the mono track and the US had it. It bugged me enough that I bought the US stand-alone disc, despite already having the UK set.
