I really hope it doesn't. I've never seen a Bond film for the first time on video and I don't plan to start now. If it does end up bypassing cinemas, I'll wait until it shows up at a rep cinema. I'm still on the fence about seeing Tenet right now, but if I don't see it in the next little while...

I wonder if they've just decided not to make it available to drive-ins, period. I'm in Toronto and cinemas have been open here for a few weeks. Tenet is starting here on Wednesday, but it won't be playing at the drive-ins.

I understand what you're saying, but 40-50 years ago, you still had to deal with things like pricey talent and unions. And production schedules weren't all that different. They turned out the first five Bond pictures in 18 months or less, even a massive production like You Only Live Twice, which...

Movie budgets are out of control. The original Star Wars cost $11 million in 1977 - adjusted for inflation, that comes to $45 million today. If a film of that size and scale could be done for that amount of money then, why can't it be now?

I think I'll be skipping theatres for a while, but if it opens at a drive-in at the end of August, I'll see it there.

The budget was reportedly in the $200-225 range. Plus another $200 or so in marketing. To make a profit, it needs to make somewhere around $1 billion at the box office.

I don't understand why he's fighting to keep the release date. Pushing it back will ensure that more people see it in the cinema in his preferred formats.
