I don't think there's any reason to buy the new blu-ray. Buy the old blu-ray, or buy the new version on one of the digital platforms.

I think the question was, does the boost of 4K and HDR make the digital version better than the old blu-ray? To which I'd still say no.

It doesn't address the 4K digital version, which only appeared on streaming services in the past couple of days.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but I did scan through the 4K stream on iTunes. It's certainly an improvement over the new blu-ray, but it still has an overly-processed, flat look to it. Overall, I still think the older disc looks better.

There's no edge enhancement on the new transfer. Just the opposite - it's downright fuzzy.

I have both. The new one certainly isn't unwatchable, but it's noticeably soft and flat looking, and not as good as the previous disc, which also isn't perfect.

I'm pretty sure iTunes uses the same master across the board - if there's a 4K master, it's used for 4K, HD and SD.

Have you tried downloading the HD version of Wonderful Life from iTunes to see how it compares to the 4K stream and disc?

I don't think anyone who isn't a serious film buff is buying a 65 year-old movie on blu-ray at this point, at all.
