I think the shots of the building are meant as a joke. Kauffman thought it was very funny to have the home of their corporate overlords stand in as "Pod Central." He wasn't wrong, lol.

My apologies, I hadn't realized the shooting format of that particular title! Sorry!

It wouldn't really matter in regards to the sound format. The negatives would be 65mm and wouldn't contain recorded sound anyway. Only the final 70mm positive print would contain both magnetic sound and picture on the same piece of film.

"Shane" is also the Ulster pronunciation of "Sean" and there were definitely historical Anglo and Irish "Shanes" before the movie came out, mostly because of the wave of Irish immigrants that came to America in the middle 1800's. Robert's right though, the name really seems to have "taken off"...

For what it's worth (and although the cut is unfortunate and unlikely to be corrected) I still, as a fan of the movie, am glad to have it otherwise looking so good on blu-ray. I realize individual mileage may vary but that's my two cents!

I believe he's thinking of the follow-up, ARTISTS AND MODELS ABROAD (1938, pairing Benny this time with Joan Bennett) which IS a Mitch Leisen film (and a much better movie than the original, if you ask me) Even imdb has the wrong movie's poster as the identifying photo.

I don't usually play these kinds of games but a YES to Goddard and a YES to Lake and a YES to Mark Sandrich (plus a YES to Claudette Colbert in a subsequent post in the other forum) Hmmmmm. Could we possibly be getting SO PROUDLY WE HAIL?** (That would be WONDERFUL!!) You know, I was sort of...

I'm not sure why it matters as there's no question that the cut is there, but here goes. The DVD I have (from the orange 'Thanks for the Memory' set which was the first appearance of NBTT on the format) is 1:30:05 with a :23 Universal bumper at the beginning and the blu-ray, on the other hand...

I'm happy to do it. The last line we hear is Hope saying "That's unfair now, look out!" for the second time as Edward Arnold and Leif Erickson are removing his clothes on the bed (at the 59:24 mark on the DVD.) Everything for the next 26 seconds is missing (starting with Glenn Anders' line...
