To me, Hooper was another director that turned out amazing work in the 70's and took a major tumble in the 80's. Unfortunately, he's got some great company in that category.

Regarding two of your points... I consider Halloween to be the first true slasher movie because it really set the template that so many movies would copy for the next 5 + years. I think of Black Christmas, Peeping Tom, etc. to be proto-slasher movies that aren't quite there and they didn't kick...

I saw that on HBO and it's not bad but it feels endless. The movie also seems to come to a natural ending at about the two hour mark which made the last 50 minutes even tougher to get through.

All those insanely overlong and self-important Marvel movies have made audiences and some filmmakers think that every movie is now an epic and too long means that it's good. It's a movie about a clown killing people- it shouldn't have been longer than 85 minutes. :laugh:

Odd as it sounds, you feel bad for him when he's running around chewing people up as a werewolf but using a telescope to spy on Evelyn Ankers is a bridge too far.

I'm sure it'll do its own thing but it sounds like they're using Cruising as a springboard for the leather serial killer story. If you're a fan of slasher movies, 1984 was a pretty decent season of AHS.

That's how I watch them during these challenges. I enjoy it because jumping from a Frankenstein movie to an Invisible Man one gives some variety and it's interesting because you can see filmmaking change pretty dramatically over the course of twenty-five years.

I think watching the Frankenstein or Dracula movies is probably the best choice for anyone seeing these movies for the first time.

That was one of the last horror movies that Universal spent money on. After that, it was 95% B-movies for their horror pictures.
