I haven't disliked any of the first four Trek movies so I am holding out hope that I'll dig V and VI. Presumably, TMP: DE can't be that different so I'll still enjoy that one.
Overall, Spock dying and the Enterprise getting destroyed all make the previous two serious in my mind. That's not a bad thing but I was glad to see a more fun movie for the fourth one.
I think the accessibility comes from the name Star Trek. Someone who is younger and a fan of other Trek shows is probably willing to give this movie or the original series a shot simply because it's Star Trek and they like another iteration of it. The same goes for Star Wars. If they didn't keep...

6ABC kept that up through at least the mid-2000's as I remember a friend who would listen to Lost on the radio while she was at work. She said it worked well until there was an episode featuring Jin and Sun who would generally only speak Korean.
