I love that too and I'm glad that Nolan has the clout to do things for real but it kills me that I wasn't excited by most of it because any of the backwards stuff looked fake enough that it might as well have been CG. It never came off as real or impressive to me despite that it was largely both...

I do because I think Warners will basically give Nolan whatever he wants to keep him. Nolan must be one of the biggest earners that Warner Bros. has ever had (maybe the biggest) so he could tie the CEO's mom to train tracks and the next day, Warners would still give him anything he wants because...

    Tenet (2020)

With the amount of success he's had, I think he's got to have at least one more 'failure' before that happens. If Warners doesn't give him what he wants, he can literally go to any other studio who will give it to him in the hopes that they can also get him to turn out a franchise movie for them.

    Tenet (2020)

I didn't have a problem hearing the dialogue but I didn't understand it because the stuff they're talking about is too complex to be easily understood. LIke Inception, I quickly gave up, assumed that Nolan was a smart enough individual that whatever the hell everyone was talking about all made...
  5. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

Yeah, I'm sure he enjoys the paycheck but I don't think he's spending a significant portion of his creative life (hell, his life in general) on making those movies just for the money.
  6. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

He seems to be rolling his passion for oceanography and teaching people about saving the planet into those Avatar sequels so I think that's a driving force behind his interest in those movies (and I commend him using his 'art' to try to make a difference). That being said, I sure wish he was...
  7. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

That's the most depraved thing I've ever read on the internet. :) James Cameron can actually craft an action sequence where you can tell what's happening and it's well edited. Michael Bay has yet to do either of those things with any frequency.
  8. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

Dunkirk is probably my second favorite Nolan movie with Interstellar being the top of the list. There's a couple moments in Dunkirk that I found to legitimately thrilling and a couple in Interstellar that I found legitimately moving. The last two movies I saw in a theater were Onward and The...

    Tenet (2020)

From the article: They're right, dude. Leaving out the pandemic and the risks related to that, just flying to go see a movie that you may not like is nutty.
  10. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

Yeah, that's what I meant. No movie has yet to cost that much money... but I bet Cameron is making a try for it. :)
  11. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

How much money does this movie need to make in the US to work financially and is it even possible? I think the length of time it would need to keep playing well is basically impossible in modern day box office. I realize it'll be the only game in town but after two or three weeks, I think almost...
  12. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

Yeah, I have to give him credit because he's putting more value on getting the movie in front of people than he is on his wallet. That's not to say that I think releasing a movie right now is a great idea but it's nice that he's not letting money dictate every move.
  13. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

I think the reality is that Nolan doesn't like drive-ins because the picture quality of some of them is godawful and Warners is, yet again, listening to his plans that keep increasing the amount of money they lose.
  14. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

If that happens (and it is possible), piracy will make that a futile gesture in my mind. It's not like people in New York or California won't just steal it online rather than wait an unknown amount of time to see it in a theater. And realistically, alot of people in states that have open...

    Tenet (2020)

The number of folks that aren't going to the theater due to the pandemic is probably a very significant chunk of people but they're lost as ticket buyers so they're basically a non-issue (they aren't going and there's not a way to get them to go). The group that Warners has to focus on is the...
  16. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

I definitely think that's part of it. All the clickbait ads that I've seen are saying it sucks but that's what clickbait ads are for. As much as I don't care for Rotten Tomatoes, I think that presents a reasonably balanced view of what critics overall think. I know WB has fantasies of this...

    Tenet (2020)

If there's a safe, properly tested and proven vaccine on the market, I'm taking it and everyone that I know will take it. If there's morons that want to think a vaccine is actually a plot by Bill Gates or George Soros or whatever boogeyman they've invented to mind control them with, they can...

    Tenet (2020)

A month ago, I had a buddy saying that he might go but that's switched to "No way" and I know another person saying he wanted to go on like a weekday afternoon if it looked empty or close to it but he even seems real hesitant to go now. Everyone else I know has said they aren't going or don't go...

    Tenet (2020)

They have to know that they're going to take a bath but I guess they're just hoping that they only lose $100 million bucks instead of $300 million.
  20. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

I realize this is basically forbidden territory on HTF and some here might disagree but with the pandemic, I feel that people are morally in the clear if they get a bootleg of Tenet AND they also buy a ticket for it in a theater but don't go to see the movie. I'm not naive enough to think that...
  21. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

That's definitely possible. The theaters have no leverage so Warners can put both on there and tell the theaters "tough luck" if Tenet really takes a beating.
  22. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

I still think they'll move WW if Tenet doesn't earn. If Tenet goes in the hole for a couple hundred million because of limited seating, how does WB release another massively expensive movie a month later when seating likely won't be much better?
  23. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

My guess is that since Tenet is so expensive, WB will do everything they can to make money from it as soon as they can. Home video and VOD seem like a lock since there will be more money than usual to be made from the people that really want to see it but don't want to go to a theater.
  24. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

Hell no. :) If anyone associated with any upcoming movie does, you'll see it because any answer they give will look terrible and they'll be painted as putting money over lives. I'd imagine that publicists won't allow questions regarding the pandemic to even be asked.
  25. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

They'll still play it. It'll just play to a lot of empty seats. Right now, it's not like IMAX screens have any real other options of movies to play instead. The studios have all the content that theaters need right now. The studios hold all the cards and can set almost any deal they want. Yep...
  26. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

I think the only question is when they announce that it'll go VOD. Do they completely screw the theaters and say it before the theatrical release or do they give it some time in theaters before announcing it?
  27. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

I think many people will. That will give the movie's inevitably weak box office a real boost. How does WB not tell (not ask) AMC that they're getting the same deal that Universal has? The studios have the theaters by the short hairs. If they don't agree, Warners delays Tenet again and the chains...
  28. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

With news of AMC and Universal's deal to allow Universal to put their movies up VOD 17 days after the theatrical release, I think the folks who don't want to go to a theater to see Tenet now will be able to see Tenet at home by the end of September. Tenet is with WB but there's no way that they...
  29. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

Yes, there's no money coming in from theaters but at the same time, it's not like studios have no income. None of the tentpoles will actually be able to turn a profit at the seating they'll have to deal with so I can't see how losing millions is a better proposition than waiting to make more...
  30. TravisR

    Tenet (2020)

If that's the case (and I believe that it could be) then that's all the more reason for studios to pull their movies until after a vaccine is available and maximize what they can make from their movies. I certainly see no financial logic in putting something out now when if they waited a year...
